I read 20% somewhere. This is some kind of average from what small amount of data that can be collected. It doesn't mean that the cause is ITP though.
Some patients have multiple conditions I guess that compounds the problem statistically.
However it's not very encouraging is it!

I know when I applied for life insurance the premiums sky-rocketed! Wish I'd done it before the Itp was diagnosed :/
Have had ITP for 22 years and have never been told my life expectancy would be affected. Driving in Belgium where I live is more likely to kill me.
The simple answer is NO. I have had ITP for 11 years and whilst it is annoying, and often a right pain in the rear end, there are many ways now of treating it and keeping it under control in most cases. As for it impacting on life expectancy I haven't had any information from any of my many ITP specialists to suggest that it would make much difference at all. Just get on with life and enjoy.
