Can a 14 years old take steroid 10 mg for a month due to ITP ?

My daughter having low platelets since August thiz year. After IVIG she has been on varying steroid doses high -low -high and currently at 10 mg. Docs suggested to continue 10 mg for a month . Has anyone experience of such long term use of steroids at such tender age ?

My son had it at 12 and it settled after 6 months of being IVIG and steroids,its now been 6 years,all good.Give her a very healthy diet of fresh fruit,fresh juice,betroot,carrots etc...It should be fine.Please be patient,its really tough as a parent,I can understand.

Did doc give any other medicine too along with steroids like azaron, revolade or dapsone ?

For how long son was kept on Steroids ? Every week blood test ?

Which Hematologist you referred ?

Did you give papaya leaves extract or giloy like we do for dengue ? Any specific diet you followed ?

I know i m asking too much but please answer.

If i remember right he had steroid for a week after IVIG.We are in India,I am not sure if you are in India,in case you are I can give you the number of the doctor in Delhi.

At that stage no other medicine was given only an Iron supplement as his Feretin levels were low.

No papaya juice at that stage was given.

He had a bit of an issue last year after a bad cold/cough counts dropped to 72,however with a healthy diet he recovered and is now in the normal range.

Diet is lots of fresh fruit/fresh juice/spinach/beetroot/carrots along with normal food.

Hello! My daughter had itp since age of 5 she is naw 12 and she does steroid for a long period. Initialy started with a high dose for a few days and then the dose was decrising gradually and staing with a low dose diary, but if the plalets gows down her hematologist sometimes put her at a dose of 10mg or more per day. Actually she is doing 5mg/day.

Its important dont do high doses of steroids for a long period, but high doses are the equivalent of her weight or close to it.
