First results after steroids....

My 13 year old daughter had a platelet count of 19 and after a week of steroids we got her first results just 30 mins ago......208!!!!! Is this normal for a first result???

It's good news n I hope it stays like this once she is off steroids. way does th doc say a n how's she coping with periods. . .Will they continue syeroids during that tme.. ask them as it will affect her. I 've a female cousin with tip n they 've been giving her hormones to avoid periods as it was too hard for her.

Thanks for your reply. She is already on a lot of meds to stop periods already. Sadly it was because they continued despite the meds that the Consultant took the decision to do the bone marrow biopsy and start the steroids...😕

Thanks for the tip though. I'll be sure to talk to the Consultant about this.

I had a similar result after I started Prednisone. My platelets spiked far over normal, but I was assured that was usual and that they would even out, and they did. 208k is a lovely number. I also hope your daughter can hold onto that kind of count!

Thanks Ruth. I had to ask the nurse to repeat it 3 times as I couldn't quite believe it!!

That is great to read. Results a dependent on several factors. How many mg of the medicine is she taking? How often is she taking the medication? How much does she weigh? Those results appear to be great. Now, the next step will more than likely be is for her doctor to step her down off the steroids and see if her count holds.

Bella is 70kg and started on 60mg of the steroid.

She is aching a lot from the steroids and so tired as she can't get comfy at night.

She went back to school today though which is also more good news. 🙂
