My daughter has been diagnosed since she was 3 and she has had prednisone with her IVIG for years. She is 9 now and yes her body has changed due to the medicine but she is still my beautiful little girl, to me the worse part is the mood swings and the headaches but after so many years of taking it and still having unstable numbers she had to have her spleen out 2 years ago but, she has been in remission since and has had a wonderful "normal" healthily 2 years. Just think of it this way. This is a very short time in your life that you will have to go threw this, yes the meds might change your body a bit but healthy eating and exercise with help that, it's not Like it's changing you....or making you stay in the hospital treating you like and bubble kid. It's and start to getting you back to your normal. I hope this helped....
Oh ya she went threw eltrombopeg too. She was actually apart of the test trial and it did not seem to work as well right away it took a while for them too find the right dose for her but in the end it did start to work
There are quite a few more things you haven't tried. E.g. MMF and rituximab. Both helped me very well when steroids and IVIG didn't.
HI: i`ve been on the meds you mention, which didn`t help me. <My count is always like a yo yo. I have been on Eltrombag for 2years and that`s the way it is, until so mething else comes along. God Bless
I have been on mycophenolate morfetil for over 4 years and it works well for me. But there is no way of knowing if this or other drugs will work for you until you try them. Good Luck.
I have been on Dapsone for the last 1 year or so and that has helped when all others have not.
Hi; I did not know I had chronic ITP until this year. I was diagnosed 3 yrs. ago; admitted to hospital for one week due to cellulitis (rash on trunk) with sepses and my platelets were at 2; hence I was put on 4 or 5 IVIG's. Now it comes back again 3 yrs. later and the hemo decides to put me on Nplate injections. I did for approx. 2 mos. and did not like going in there every week and pay $10 for parking and did not like the side effects as well. I asked about Promacta and have been on it for 2 weeks now and do not like the side effects; cold; dull ache in lower back; sneezing/runny nose and muscle weakness in arms and so tired. I fell asleep today and yesterday I was so tired. I just want to take something natural and not have to deal with these injections and drugs. Could anyone advise me if they have had similar side effects from Promacta and Nplate? I wish you all the best of luck with this trial and error.
