Daughter just been diagnosed with tip
First of all do not worry about the count. It's just a number. Look at how she is and if there is any bleeding. I've had itp since I was approximately 18months (could have been earlier but that's when it was spotted) I'm now 38. I have had a perfectly normal life. My count was always below 10. I've got two beautiful children. It lives with me not the other way round.
As for school procedures I'm sure they will have some in place and you could discuss what her needs are should anything happen and there are leaflets available to give to teachers. I was very lucky to have gone to a tiny junior school when I was younger which only had around 50 kids so everyone knew, kids and teachers. I wasn't wrapped in cotton wool which was good because I would have torn it off being a hyperactive child myself. As long as she is aware to some degree that she needs to be a little careful she will be fine but let her be a child as much as possible. I rode a horse, went skiing, Pgl etc. I'm still here. (Many bruises later but still here) hope this helps. X
Hi there I understand your worry having gone through this myself with my own daughter. We as a family didn't want our daughters itp to effect her life too much and wanted her to be able to be a child as much as possible just like everyone else, my daughters levels were always between 4-8 when diagnosed and we were advised by her haematologist not to allow her to pe at School. We as a family gave the school as much information as possible about the illness and also put a care plan in place if brusing or bleeding was to occur with the school nurse. All you can do is try and stay positive and try not to let it take over yours and your daughters life too much.
Thank you, I'm starting to get my head around it a bit now , as was in a right state at the time , I am trying to explain to her she needs to be a little bit more careful at moment , were back to the hospital on Monday for a blood count so fingers crossed , thabkyou very much for your positive inputs , think this is what I needed to hear x
Good luck at hospital Monday hope counts are good, il keep my fingers crossed for you take care keep us updated x
well, just got back from hospital ,platelets still at 2,so doctor does not want to see her again till mid december ,was hoping it might of risen slightly :0( x
That's a shame. But on the plus side she hasn't been diagnosed long and a lot of children go into remission and dont have it again within 6 months on there own. Lets keep our fingers crossed that your daughter is one if these. Good luck. Xx
I was diagnosed when I was in 7th grade and now I am 20. I wasn't allowed to do any sports in school, and there was a brochure I got from my hematologist with all of the activities that I was allowed to participate in. i still did PE normally and didn't mention my ITP to many people, and I survived. I would have hated to be left out during certain activities. Just be extra careful during certain activities. i got hit in the head with a basketball before and a few volleyballs and it was okay for me. My counts were a little better back then. They usually are anywhere between 15 and 50 which is a wide rang. Good luck to your daughter and you
