Want my long hair back

Just about a year ago I contacted Mrsa severe sepis and sepic shock. I was on a ventilator for two weeks, underwent several surgeries. I lost 2 to three inches of hair. I had hair just passed my shoulders. Now it's to my coller bone. I hate the way I look. It has gotten thick I have been taking hair vitamin supplements. I only wash it no more than three times a week. Have limited fast and junk food. Use a good shampoo and conditioner. Brush it two times a day. Use a heat protection . I'm driving my boyfriend nuts. I know he misses my long hair. He says he doesn't. Hair loss stopped in November 2022. Also one of my surgeries was in my brain stem. Yes part of my hair was cut and shaved. A month later it had to be cut again. It's so hard I miss French braids and I can't watch hair ads. Any time I see women with long hair I say chop chop. Can't afford hair extensions.

hair loss - if you had hair before ICU - is a shocker because it is such a drastic change of appearance & the outward manifestation that something really bad has just happened. My hair is softer, thinner & whiter but I’m getting older too. Not only is it the shock of ICU and the body’s response to trauma that causes hair loss but some meds do too - some of the meds to reduce acid and stomach ulcers like zantac and anti-coagulants like heparin, for instance

I feel your pain.

Yeah hair loss was a nasty surprise just as I was getting out of hospital. It all snapped off or fell out. I had long red hair down my back. I went crazy and had it all razored off last week to restart it and I'm going to see how blue hair works. My hair is growing back in however I'm not sure how it would react to permanent hair dye (I've dyed my hair red since I was 20) so sticking to temp hair dye just now.

I don't feel like myself anymore, I don't feel female - it's weird how much your hair ties in with your identity. I feel like once it's blue, or green or whatever, I can tie scarves round my head to simulate long hair again and that might make me feel a wee bit better.

Hope yours recovers x

it will come back. Mine came back really curly, go figure. Nails, hair, and skin were all damaged for the first year. it took a year for my nails to grow in properly again. My skin peeled in a thick layer over my entire body, it was intense. Doctors think i reacted to the antibiotics. eat healthy, exercise, ect. it all speeds up the recovery. hope u didn’t have the icu hallucinations. They’ve taken me the longest to heal from. Life/death, it’s a lot to process.
