I am a very healthy person with no underlying health conditions. I landed in ICU with septic shock after completing a course of antibiotics prescribed by my PCP for UTI. No one made the connection at the time and I was discharged after $64,000 worth of tests yielded no clues to what caused my septic shock.
It turns about that I am severely allergic to all medication containing Sulfa which can send my into anaphylactic shock. I was prescribed the same medicine this month and had the exact same reactions and finally the penny dropped.
Please make sure your meds are not causing the sepsis. I am now losing most of my hair and no idea if the hair will grow back given I am 58!! Very disturbing and depressing.
Beware and get yourself tested for Sulfa allergy. Also, whilst at the ICU we found that I am also allergic to Vancamycin which sent me into convulsions in the ER. 😰

Your hair loss may well be temporary - l lost 75% of mine 2 months after initial trauma.
Mine slowly grew back much much softer 😊.
What a horrible way to find out about your allergies.
I had a horrendous experience with an anti-viral I was on - it lead to fitting etc etc. I somehow connected the two & refused to take it - I had a CMV infection which was being treated with ganciclovir. A few years later, I had a similar reaction with another antiviral which was prescribed prophylactically whilst being treated for leukaemia.
I was also reactive to a few broad spectrum antibiotics that I was administered during my stay in ICU - thankfully they were all changed quickly.
Now I bounce between infections managing the knock on effects of all the drugs which are both saving me & knackering me. The irony!!
Thank you for your response and words of encouragement. Your situations makes mine seem like a walk in the park. How are you feeling these days? Is the cancer in remission?
