My nan had a cardiac arrest and her heart stopped for 45 minutes. Today will be her 4th day in icu. She is on life support she has been heavily sedated, they took away the sedation yesterday morning but shes not had any response. They are saying her kidneys aren't functioning at best so this could contribute to her not having any response they are going to give her untill the morning then they are running brain tests. I guess the point of this post is to see if anyone else has been in a similar situation and still had brain activity as this is my biggest worry.
Also how long did it take others to come around from sedation after a cardiac arrest.
Thankyou in advance

Back in late 2019 I had a heart attack followed bt double pneumonia, sepsis and a range of other infections. I also had my aortic valve replaced. I was initially expected to stay in ICU for a few days buut in the end it was for nearly 3 months. I had a tracky and they had difficulty in getting me t come round. In the end thay said our first priority is to get him stable then we will think about how long it will take. We are all different but it can be a long process. PS I'm now 73.
I was in icu and out of it for about 40 days after heart stopped after blood clot post operation. I am a iut six months down the line now and a lot better but still not really back to normal, though I have hopes. I had a series of everything that can go wrong went wrong while out of it but I think that really my wife had the whole experience worse then me. I didn’t really know what was happening at all but it has been really hard work recovering. It really does test you!
