My husband was doing so good? He had a very successful ventilator vacation Saturday, suddenly on Sunday he began spiking a fever and his WBC doubled to 38.9? They removed a dyalisis line they thought was causing infection on Friday?Does anyone have any experience in this?
Infection in ICU: My husband was doing so good? He... - ICUsteps
Infection in ICU
Yes multiple infections whilst in ICU - whilst not desirable- it’s pretty standard unfortunately - I hope you have better news tomorrow.
My husband had lots and lots of infections during his hospital stay. He always seemed to get a really bad one after a really good spell which just reminded me of the rollercoaster ride that ICU is 😔
I think others have said that due to all the drugs, they don't have a very good immune system so these things are very easy to pick up.
Great news about the ventilator vacation! Try to keep the positives in mind as much as possible and I hope your husband gets over this infection soon xx
Yes, my mom’s WBC count started going up. We kept asking the doctor to look into it, he didn’t have a sense of urgency and turned out my mom’s GI feeding tube was leaking fluid into her stomach. This was developing into sepsis and by the time they realized it, it had become pretty serious. ICU patients are very susceptible to infections, hopefully you can get the doctor to check all possible sources.
Please let me know he is getting on as we are going through the exact same thing
This seems to be very common my dad is too dealing with another infection it's so unfortunate when theyve already been through so much! And making progress it knocks me sick.
They have given him a ultrasound of his stomach, a CT scan of his stomach and tomorrow he is getting a scan with contrast of his gull bladder? His white blood count went down by .2%, but at least it didn't go up? No fever or throwing up today? We will see what tomorrow brings? Today just praying?
Today my husband's white blood count dropped 13 points and he is talking, no fever, vomiting or pain. Such good news! Then they told me that the infection is from his gallbladder. They plan to send him to a hospital that has an OR as an outpatient . They said they would be putting in a Stent and draining his gallbladder? Has anyone heard of them doing this?
My husband's white blood count has dropped 20 points and he is doing better. They found that the infection is his gallbladder. Tomorrow they will be putting in a Stent to drain out the infection because he is not strong enough for a Lazar surgery procedure. I am praying that once this is behind us it should only be a matter of time till they take him off the ventilator, and then the Trach!
That's so good to hear. has your husband been proned much to your knowledge?
He has been in the hospital since November 1. He was proned until December because his heart rate began having difficulty.
