when in an induced coma is your subconcious mind awake my consultant said even through i didnt remember icu my body did?

If I remember correctly your subconscious mind never really shuts off I know that when I was unconscious most of my hallucinations could be traced back to stuff id seen or watched prior to going to hospital ( I had watched bohemian rhapsody the night before I couldn't listen to queen for about a month afterwards lol)

There are all sorts of views about this and we at ICUStepsChester were only talking about this a couple of weeks ago. Some agree with what @Dabofoppo said.
Memory is a really strange thing. I have lost memory from before admission to ICU and as a consequence I have difficulty in identifying what are real memories from the past. I can remember the hallucinations etc some could have been based on some reality if you work really hard at it but mostly there is no reason for them. I don’t have memory when I was sedated / ventilated although there were occasions when they said I spoke to them. This probably was when the drs were trying to take me off but they had to keep reseating me.
I don’t really understand what is meant about your body remembering unless it is talking about the time it takes for muscle to repair if ever it repairs properly.
I remember every second of being in ICU.
I was in and out of sedation for 19 days and my sub conscious mind went bananas! I felt like I'd been in hospital for years.
I had my wisdom teeth out under general anaesthetic when I was in my
late twenties and I was aware of being sedated during the operation. I couldn't feel anything but I could see the lights and shapes of the surgeons.
In my opinion everything is recorded by the subconscious brain, even though the conscious mind may not remember. It's a bit like dreaming. Many scientists now believe that we always dream when we're asleep, but we mostly forget.
I've read that when in a (non-induced) coma any dreams you remember having occur as you are coming out of the coma. I'm not sure if it's the same for an induced coma.
I've never remembered ICU and that was in 2012. I remember HDU and then the ward.
