My mother suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke earlier this month. She was sedated for weeks and was given a trach. She is slowly awakening and her breathing has improved. It’s been painful not being able to be by her side because of hospital restrictions. I was just wondering if there are any hemorrhagic stoke survivors/family members willing to share their story and how recovery went for you. I’m looking for some hope.

Hemorrhagic Stroke
How is your mom?
I hope your Mum is improving slowly. No matter what caused the initial admission into ICU, families & patients experience an alien time. Full of hope and disappointment in equal measure, it will take your Mum much longer to get well than it will to have got as ill as she is now. Approx 12 days for everyday in hospital is the general rule of thumb. Maybe tomorrow will bring better news. I survived against the odds.
I had a hemorrhagic stroke in June 2009 and went through a similar treatment to your mother. One thing to be ready for is a change in her character possibly negative. Google 'five stages of grief/loss' for a detailed explanation. The first stages (denial and anger) can be difficult to deal with.
My method for success is to set SMART goals (Google it again!) for myself. The danger lies in the fourth srage, depression, which some people never escape from. Never forget that your mother loves you even if she's spitting feathers at you right now!
