Today I have the nurse talking to me saying that they are concerned about his condition. He is still on high oxygen level and he now needs to be prone everyday. She also said to expect him to be unsettled after the prone position. Everyday it is hard when wr get a call from the hosp😔
ICU COVID19: Today I have the nurse talking to me... - ICUsteps
ICU COVID19
Can you remind me how many days he’s been ventilated? My dad was proned almost constantly for at least 10 days with only short periods on his back. I really believe this helped him. It brought his oxygen down but it did go back up on his back so they knew he was more comfortable on his front. It’s not natural in ICU but is a recognised treatment in respiratory conditions so it’s good they are doing it. What level of oxygen is he on? X
He is on 75 % of oxygen. He has been to hosp for 12 days today.
It will really help. The lungs are more in the back than the front so it takes the pressure off. It also allows gravity to move any of those secretions stuck on the lungs so they can suction them out easier, all moving towards reducing that oxygen level. It does work so try not to be too disheartened xxx
My Dad has been regularly proned. Don’t worry. It’s very common practice and appears to help massively.
Hopefully the oxygen requirements will come down soon. 🙏🏽
Thank you
Everyday is a battle☹️
It certainly is. I’m struggling to sleep and eat properly. Just been prescribed some diazepam.
We need to keep positive for our family members as well. I’ve realised my tears are not helping me or them. Let’s all pray and stay strong 🙏🏽
🙏🏻😔 xxxxx
Proning saved my life - if all else failed my safety net was ECMO at Wythenshawe. Well that day arrived but then Wythenshawe decided that they couldn’t take me because I wouldn’t survive the ambulance journey!
So proning was all that was left in the arsenal - they had chucked everything else at me inc. the proverbial kitchen sink.
Sending the biggest hug. My Love is struggling today too .... just got off the phone 🥺😔🥺😔
Keep strong x
My husband was in an induced coma for 90 days and survived. Proning saved his life when all else was failing. As you've already experienced this journey is so up and down and you're nerves will be on pins as mine was. Like you in the end I dreaded the calls because when I thought there was some hope, it then seemed to be taken away. Keep strong because he is hanging on in there and from my experience it can take a long time. Sending you loads of posative thoughts.
My dad has been on the ventilator for 24 days with covid-19. He now needs 100% oxygen with decreased Blood pressure...when do you pull the plug?
They haven’t done a brain scan but it won’t show damage.. I suppose they can do a PET scan and check his sugar uptake but that would only show something if it’s severe
