So does it mean that I have hughes?
Hi Holly
There are three blood tests which look for antiphospholipid antibodies in your blood: the lupus anticoagulant (not to be confused with lupus itself); the anticardiolipin (aCL) and the anti-beta2-glycoprotein1.
Many laboratories also record the particular class of the antibody when carrying out the anticardiolipin test (IgG or IgM) which is doing the binding, IgG being more likely (though not uniquely) to cause thrombosis.
A diagnosis of Hughes syndrome is made from a combination of symptoms and a positive blood test.
I'm scared and my Dr said its completely normal but I'm not so sure
Do you have any symptoms? For reasons which are often obscure, just because you have the antibody does not mean you have Hughes. when I was diagnosed, my children's pediatrician ran blood tests on my children. One was negative, one was positive though neither had symptoms. The pediatrician advised the child with the positive test to remain alert to symptoms, though there is a good chance neither will ever acquire Hughes.
I have weird "fast migraines" and livedo rash. I am terrified though and wonder how I will deal with this stress of wondering
I had the the anti-beta2-glycoprotein done three times and my IgM always comes back very high. But IgG & IgA are normal. I was put on Coumadin for life. Had DVT & PE 2 years ago which is why my doctor had the tests done. He has never called it APS though. Just that I have a very high risk for clots.
