HEPARIN
Hi there, sorry about this, all I can say is that when on fragmin, whether at home or in hospital, I was covered in bruises! MaryF x
Warfarin , Plaqunil and Heparin seem an awful lot to take ( not that I am an expert when did you last see your Haematologist? )
I had bruises a lot of the time when I was on Clexane. Just one thing you don't try and get the air bubble out of the syringe before you give it do you
Good luck Karen
I always get bruises on my tummy when I take levonox, to get ready for some form of surgery.
It just happens, nothing you can do about it. the shot are breaking the skin and therefore bruises occur!!!!! Sorry it happens, good luck!!!
Hi Daisy. Yes - some real multicoloured belters, too! My tummy is also very tender from the injections and I never wear anything tight, even my leggings are a size bigger than I need. But my skin is very sensitive anyway most of the time, which I think is a Hughes symptom. With the rest of your meds, you would be even more prone to bruising than me - I take only the Clexane for blood. Just inject gently to minimise the problem. Take care, Larraine x
Hi there,
I would definately agree with the injecting slowly. I am a real baby with injections, so hubby has to do it. The slower he injects the clexane, the less painful it is and the times when I do bruise are mostly when it hurts/he injects too quickly. Like someone else said, alternate sides too.
I only have clexane if I have to come off warfarin for any reason or if we go skiing. I don't know if it is documented, but the first time I went on a ski holiday after diagnosis, on warfarin the altitude really messed with my levels. So now i come off warfarin and go onto clexane for the duration.

Hi Daisy, have been injecting Clexane for 3 or 4 yrs instead of taking Warfarin as my digestive system is a mess and this seemed the best solution. I also get bruising pretty often although there are times when there's none at all and like you in hospital there was no bruising.
All the above tips seem good to me and I hadn't made the connection about injecting slowly so will definitely give that a try.
I also take Plaquenil and Asprin and Disopyramide, for Arrhythmia, which I know all have a small blood thinning effect so I figure bruises are now just a part of life. My bikini wearing days are definitely a thing of the past! Take care Nonny
Hello, it bruises when you hit the muscle! Hard to avoid as the stomache is covered with muscle!! Try the soft skin outside of tummy before your hip or around the belly button about 2 inches out. Try the area before you push in, if it is really resisting or hurts before you plunge the needle take it out and try somewhere else until it sinks in easy. That way there is less bruising. Laying down helps too as your relaxed. But sometimes you just can't help getting big nasty bruises!
I can definately agree with louise....
if i start to feel a sharp pain as i touch the skin with the syringe i immediately move to another spot. I know that if I continue to inject there it will continue to sting the further in i push the needle.
Thanks for those ideas about injecting with Heparin, as I am having colonoscopy and gastroscopy on Wednesday, and have ceased Plavix since Friday evening. So I was pleased that the anesthetist and also surgeon, because of APS, have recommended Clexane injections tonight, and Monday/Tuesday, since I've had 3 severe strokes over many years. So first time for everything, thanks all
Do not touch your tummy. touching, rubbing or scratching causes the bruising.
