Hoping someone here with straight lupus knows.

I am not a doctor and this question is an academic question. Some people have a positive ANA and healthy. Others, like me with SLE are negative. On the other hand, I have very high levels of IgM, very low IgA and normal IgG. In fact all are out of wack! In other words, there’s a lot going on in this complicated area other than dNA. What you are referring to is about diagnostic tests in connective tissue diseases. Your specialist is the best person to ask.

Here’s one informative paper from a reputable American institution:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

There’s a whole argument regarding diagnosis because the actual “criteria” was originally only for sorting the same kinds of patients for clinical studies & not a diagnostic category. I write a paper about this years ago. This paper is from a well respected lupus specialist using the Classification as a diagnostic tool:

hss.edu/conditions_does-ana...

Although I don’t have a positive ANA I was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma associated with SLE! They tell me, “I’m complicated!” The point is: don’t get hung up on tests. Ask your specialist and try to get on with enjoying life as well as you can.

If you want to talk, drop over to: healthunlocked.com/lupus-su...

If you are a scientist, then the other scientific papers may make sense to you but they are above my pay grade!

Be well!

Hello, I was diagnosed with follicular non Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2021. May I ask what type you have? I have just begun researching how my over active immune system plays a role.Thank you

I have Marginal Zone Lymphoma, a rare form of cancer associated with SLE etc. It was diagnosed after a bone marrow biopsy. MZL comprises 7% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

One of my neighbors has Marginal Zone and was incorrectly diagnosed with lupus.Another of my neighbors has CLL.

I am often surprised when I tell someone I have cancer and they tell me they do too.

SLE is very difficult to diagnose. There is "classic" SLE: malar rash, positive ANA & lupus nephritis. Additionally, there are lupus variant diseases. As Prof. Graham RV Hughes noted: to all extents and differences, lupus variant conditions should be treated as lupus. Unfortunately, unless a doctor is actively looking for SLE, it can be missed. Mixed Connective Tissue Diseases is another vague term, when a doctor doesn't know. What's important is the treatment and that the doctor is expert in this area.

Be well!
