Hair loss

My hair seems like it is getting thinner and breaking off. I wondered if it has anything to do with the Warfin? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I had the same issues when I was on warfarin. I discussed it with my inr nurse and we decided to change the warfarin for a different blood thinner called aconenumarol (it's brand name is Sinthrone) and I haven't looked back. My hair improved also when I was taken off warfarin. So my advice would be to talk to a member of your inr team and see what they suggest. Good luck xx

Yes, it most likely is the warfarin. My husbands hair fell out, grew again and then whenever the INR goes above 3 it all falls out again. He also get large open 'cysts' in his back when the count goes up. It should be 2 to 2.5 or else he has problems. We asked to be changed to Synthrone...our GP told us that it isn't available!!!! More likely its more expensive! We have now got a Coagucheck home kit (£300) so we can check it once a week instead of the anything up to 10 weeks at the clinic. We had to argue with the GP to be 'allowed' to have this, as if we couldn't be trusted. The last time he had an INR check at the surgery it was done by an incompetent healthcare person....Not exactly giving confidence!

I am not on any blood thinners but ehen my antibodies were out of control i lost a lot of my hair. They are checking me now for autoimmune hypothyroidism.

i have recently had that same problem and am currently being switched over on to sintrome or else known to the anticoag nurses as nicumarol. i have only been switched for a week and i have already noticed my hair not falling out in the vast quantities that it was. it definately is available on nhs as i am being given it. need to push for it as it does really help.

After reading all your posts I am a bit surprised. My problem is the contrary!! I live in Spain and take acenocumarol (sintrom) and suffer from hair loss too since I´m taking it. I was sent to dermatology and They said that the problem is caused by sintrom. (during a week my INR has been lower because of an operation and my hair improved a lot!!) The INR stuff said that maybe I should try with warfarine......Amazing....I thought it could be my solution...but now I'm not as sure as I was

My hair became really thin and brittle.. it is still not great but better since I treated my underactive throid and also took LDN for all my other conditions. A slow thyroid will make you shed your hair, also hair on the body and make your actual head of hair thin and brittle. I am not on warfarin just two doses a day of aspirin. Mary F x

Thanks everyone. My doctor for my PBC said my hair loss is from the Urdosol. I do not know about my thyroid. I am seeing a Dermetologist this week and will find out more. My doctor for PBC says it's not coming from taking Warfin for my Hughes APS.
