When I say intolerance I mean after you have been taking it for some time.. if so.. what were the signs/symptoms of such... I used to be able to tolerate a high ish INR with no signs of bruising/bleeding gums etc but it seems that perhaps in my upper end of my theraputic range I am doing so.. thank you :)

Hi. Yes, I had terrible problems with it. My gums literally bled heavily, just dripping....it was horrendous, and now 3 years later I still suffer the after effects. I am slowly losing teeth and often have bouts where my teeth get loose for no reason. I use Corsodyl spray prescribed by my dentist. The bruising on my body was so bad that a nurse was asking me questions about my home life, thinking that I may be suffering domestic abuse! And finally, periods lasting 4 weeks at a time involving changing every twenty minutes...I'll say no more. I was definitely very sensitive to Warfarin. Now on Heparin for nearly two years, and very much happier!! Larraine x

Hi Annie - I was on warfarin for 8 months in total following my second DVT. It was so bad, but I hadn't been diagnosed with APS then, so they took me off the Warfarin and left me unmedicated. 4 months later I had a stroke, but it took another 18 months to get my diagnosis and get Clexane prescribed. Good luck and take care, Larraine x

I do go through times when I seem to get more bleeding and bruising. I have found though hat when my INR is high I don't bruise. It is only when it starts to come down the bruises come out.

The bleeding gums due to gingivitis. If my gums are healthy they don't bleed. I use floss, electric toothbrush, and sensitive teeth toothpaste to control it. What does your dentist say?

I have been picked up by the haematologists this year due to high INRs.

Last week one if them explained to me that there is a lot more to the INR than just taking warfarin.

He drew me a diagram:

Food- should be consistent

vitamin k intake (from food) should be consistent

Warfarin dose

affected by the above, as well as

changes to medications

our liver (How big it is, how effecient it is)

binge drinking

clotting factors in the blood

results in INR.
