Hi. New to the forum and wondered if anyone can offer advice. Im fortunate enough to have recently been successfully treated for hep c. 26 yrs+ ago I was tested and told Id previously had and naturally cleared Hep b. But was infected with hep c. I had no treatment at the time other than a biopsy and have occasiinally been callled in for tests to check how I was doing. After a few years of these I told the doctor I was interested in treatments, as Id read there were some available. He in turn contacted me last year to offer me a 3 month course of pills which Im told has left me clear of hep c after at least 26 years (I was told at time of first test that I had probably been infected years prior to this, though recall no real symptoms). While this is great news, I recently had 2 fibroscans which showed I had cirrhosis.. To be fair I am of slight build and the girl doing the scan complained she couldnt find my liver! Again, no real symptoms, only a little fatigue, however my blood tests did not back this up. A subsequent fibroscan and ultra sound showed I had some liver scarring but nothing serious? Im confused by this. Im continuing to lose weight and spend the majority of time in bed knackered?
I understood hep c to be a progressive disease. Now that the virus is undetected, am I still considered ill with a progressive disease? Will the scarring continue? And how do I stand with regards to 'declaring' my status? Though it is undetectable, do I still have it? I am due more scans soon, but have rarely seen a consultant to discuss anything with. Where else can I get good information?
