Hi I'm Redfreda n new to this site, I have hepatitis C geno type 3 and am on 2nd attempt to cure it. I'm only 3 weeks into my 12 week course, and viral load says virus not detected but I know that can change! Its a tiring sometimes sickly treatment,Ribavarin, Interferon and new, very expensive Sofosbuvir but I have a good feeling about these 3 together. I'm so happy my BBV nurse recomended me for 2nd treatment as I was getting so depressed and tired etc,at lowest point I wanted to just quietly leave this world but my 2 wee grandsons smiles and laughter made me realise I had to fight. Anyways I hope I can become a friend n give hope to other Hep C people,we are not alone. Xxx

Just a few questions if you don't mind? Firstly where are you from? are you getting Sofosbuvir on it's own with the Ribavirin and interferon? and not as part of another drug eg: Harvoni etc, How long did they say the treatment would be for? Generally if the virus becomes undetectable quickly ie: after 2-4 weeks it is taken as a positive sign that the treatment should be successful. I will keep my fingers crossed for you, all the best Ian

Hi, im from wonderful Fife in Scotland! Im getting the three meds together as in1 weekly injection of interferon, 400mg sofosbuvir a day, 2 ribavarin twice a day. I feel that the sofosbuvir dampens the side effects from interferon n ribavarin together,as my last attempt to clear Genotype 3 failed but I was so ill and took 2 years to feel confident to try again but with the Sofosbuvir,£33,000 for 12 week course!! And all seems promising, fingers crossed. Freda x

all the best redfreda i hope that you manage to clear the virus this time. i had it and was on the interferon and ribavarin and was geno type 3. same as your self. i did manage to clear it first time round thank god as i had cryoglobulinemia also and many other secondary illness's. i have now been roughly about 10 years clear of it. i did have posts when i first joined about my illness;s but deleted them for a very good reason. They said that Geno type 3 was susceptible to fatty liver. which i was told i had not long ago. so im watching my diet as i'v also had my gallbladder removed i dont know if it had anything to do with the hep c. i'v also had hep b. which i must have cleared as have never had any treatment for that. i made sure i took the ribavarin while eating a meal. not before or after and also to make sure that i had some fat in the meal as was told that the fat keeps the ribavarin in the system longer. wishing you all the very best. love grace xoxoxo

Thanks for your reply Freda, I'm from Glasgow but have been living in Oxford for the past 27 years. You seen to be fine regarding any side effects to the interferon and Ribavarin and it's good that you only have to have the interferon injected once weekly. Having cleared the virus myself this year I appreciate just how good the new drugs are, and I am optimistically hoping that you get a favourable outcome this time round in your fight with hep C. Aw ra best Freda, god bless, Ianx

Hi ivr Noreen here for a bit but I'm glad to let you know that I'm how Hep C free n it feels good. I'm left with mild cirrhosis, heart burn, weight gain, probs with tongue, taste buds n saliva. But that's small price to pay,I'm free lol, I feel like shouting it from tree tops but there's not that many folk knew I had it,too ashamed. I only told family n close friends,I just felt it was dirty disease n not many folk knew I had been on heroin for a year, everybody knew bout my ex bf being an addict since he was 16. This is where I caught my Hep C,he obvs injected quite a bit but not round me. Oh am 3 years free of him too, life is good n am starting to find Freda again. I can't thank the nurses n staff, the NHS enuf and the new treatments cos it took a lot of money it to rid me of his past inside my blood.I just thought I'd drop in n let you all know how I got on,my life n prayers are with you all xxxx
