Skipped heartbeats on bisoprolol

Yes all the time, I’ve been on Bisoprolol for 5 years and lately my ectopics are almost constant, I upped my dose today but hasn’t helped.
Thankyou for the reply iv had an episode for about half an hour how long do yours normally last. I don't know weather to take my bisoprolol now instead of normal time at bedtime
Some days they go on all day. I’m on 2.5 mg split into am and pm and I can take more if needed but doesn’t really help. I’ve tried other meds but they all come with issues of some sort.
Your dose is very low so maybe ask your cardiologist about trying a bit more or changing to something else.
For me, bisoprolol just makes skipped beats a little less noticeable. It certainly doesn't get rid of them. Magnesium glycinate and flecainide both reduce my ectopic burden. It may be worth asking your cardiologist about these options.
OK thanks il enquire are they both prescribed medications
Hi I am.one of those that couldn't take any beta blocker and tried them.all.Verapimil certainly made my constant 24 hour ectopic much less noticeable.Maybe chat to your gp about trying another med.Good wishes.
I've been on Bisoprolol for over 5 years & tried various doses from 1.25 up to 10mg & still suffer with pacs & pvcs even with my Pacemaker. Fed up with the continual feeling of tiredness.I'm presently waiting for a meds review with my cardiologist to try something different!
How often do you get pvcs and is it a heart condition that causes them? Sorry to hear you have been suffering for so long, hope they find aa medication that works for you.
Yes I did. I stopped taking it because allnit did for me was reduce my blood pressure and make my heart rate slow which made it more prone to pvcs for me. M cardiologist gave me flecainide but I have never taken ot as I'm too scared to.
I came off bisoprolol because it lowered my already low heart rate. Its low at rest anyway.
Hi, I'm also on 1.25mg Bisoplorol for a few years now to control intermittent AF, it works alright, for over a full year I've had no AF episodes however small. But my heart rate is constantly 40 at rest, and at night too. I asked the doctor if that is a problem and he said no. Lately and since a virus in November I get premature venticular contractions, but again was told that this is not a problem for me. On the whole I am pleased with Bisoplorol.
OK thanks for replying. Mine is in the forties every now and then more in the morning as I take bisoprolol at night. Can you feel your heart beating slowly or does it not bother you.
Hi Songlines,Like you I have ectopics and paroxysmal A. Fib. I also take 1.25mg of bisoprolol ( have taken 2.5mg in past). My A. Fib has happened about 10 times in the last year but only lasts for between 1 minute and 20 minutes. Doctor put me on anti coagulation meds which I hate taking as it makes me giddy. Do you have to take anti coagulation? And the bisoprolol doesn't stop my ectopics either!

Oh OK yes they shouldn't have put you on bisoprolol if your heart rate is already low. Do you think you will start taking the flecainide or are you managing without?
I believe Bisoprolol is used for rate control rather than rythmn control, so I don’t see how it can help ectopics. I take 10 mg daily and have very frequent ectopics, but my heart rate never exceeds 100 bpm.
Annie
I was put on 1.25 Bisoprolol for ectopics. I also get pvcs but never been caught so not on bisoprolol for those.
Mine were never caught and was told i was imagining it all until I saved money and bought a Kardia. It caught everything and the hospital didn't know what to do with all my evidence. I recorded everything, but still nothing much happened except i was given Bisoprolol but it didnt do anything to stop my PVCs. I also now save to have a private echo twice a year. I have one booked for tomorrow actually, but that does get expensive.

Thank you for your post, I am sure you are aware, Bisoprolol is a beta blocker prescribed to help in manage and control the erratic heart rhythm into a more organised and normal 'sinus' rhythm. The dosage will depend very much on your individual symptoms, if you continue to experience regular 'episodes' please contact your doctor as the dosage may need to be altered.

Hi. Yes I still got them on bisoporlol. I have now changed to Verapamil. It did take time to adjust from bisoprolol to Verapamil. I still get them but not long bouts of them which could last upto 16 hours a day.
If this dosnt settle them they are thinking about an ablation which im not sure about.
I can get 6% of heart beats being atopic beats. But if you get the all clear they dont seem to worry about them.
Really hope bisoprolol works for you.
Worrying about them.makes them worse.
Thanks for your comment, 6 percent isn't too bad and yes worrying definitely makes them worse. Iv heard about ablation iv never had it done myself I think thats more for extreme palpitations
I just don't understand why cardiologists keep prescribing bblockers for PVCs. They just don't work. They only work for exercise/effort induced PVCs, i.e. in structurally damaged hearts. For functional PVCs, which are usually of vagal origin, they can even worsen the situation.
One study showed that they worked for about 32% but these were people with other heart issues. For those of us with structurally normal hearts, I agree with you. They have helped my PVCs to be a bit less uncomfortable but I think that I may get more of them. Cutting down now, I plan to just use Bisoprolol when they are bad.
Are you EX as in "no more" or "extra"? If no more, how?
I did 2 ablations... solved!I mean, I used to have 10.000 to 20.000 pvc per day and now I rarely have 10. The first failed, the second succeeded. I am now 12 years pvc free!
Thanks, I hear different reports of ablations, they seem a bit hit and miss. I get thousands of PVCs a day, they are not very strong but periods of bigeminy make me ill. No mention of ablation from my GP, I will suggest it if they get too bad.
I also have electrohypersensitivity, proven in double blind tests and I think that this is the cause of my PVCs making my heart sensitive, easily triggered by stomach gas. Doctors treat me like a child, their knowledge is so restricted.
Good to hear someone getting helped.
