good evening, I have written and in the past I have not received answers, so I have been taking b blockers for four years now, I have taken bisoprolol nebivolol and now atenolol once in the smallest dose, now the problem I am with these pills is a feeling of palpitations from fear, the heart is well controlled but they make me depressed and I worry sometimes I say now but everyone tells me it's all in my head, my question is have any of you had the same side effects and done it for this, recently I have a prescription for escitalopram for this reason, which I haven't started yet, I'm in a dilemma whether to stop atenolol or take escitalopram thanks

paraactive β blockers
I am sorry to hear about your recent experiences. It is important to discuss your symptoms and concerns about the medication with your own Doctor. They have access to your medical records and will be able to make any recommendations to amending your medication or alternative options to suit you on a personal basis.
here in Greece we don't have a personal doctor, but two cardiologists I spoke to told me it's all in my head, only the psychiatrist told me that beta blockers in some people can cause side effects like depression and anxiety and sleep disorders, and that it's hard to stop after so many years, the only thing I can do is to take escitalopram for a year and then stop both

So I also am starting Metoprolol at 12.5 mg small dose of beta blocker to slow heart rate. I was taking 25mg and my blood pressure went to 98/68 too low for me... I also worry and get anxiety every time I take a new drug or even the magnesium. I am taking glycinate and it made me get an adrenaline feeling that the doc said he had never heard of.
indeed b-blockers are strange drugs, in the last week I went to two cardiologists, I told them the problems I have with them and they told me to stop immediately, these drugs do not work for me and that there is no alternative solution in my case for tachycardia with palpitations at the moment I am on 25mg of atenolol which I can stop immediately because of the small dose
What do you mean you can stop immediately because of the small dose. who gave you the dose.
How do you work out and how do you feel...
and what effects did you have on b-blockers?
long story b blockers for me, in the first place I doubt if I can exercise while taking this pill, the good thing is that they are relatively good for my heart the main reason I took them was I had sinus tachycardia with palpitations that's why the doctor prescribed them at first bisoprolol 2.5 then nebivolol 2.5 and now atenolol the problem is as I told the cardiologist is that they make me feel awful dizzy feelings of hopelessness pessimism, that is I struggle to survive, and the cardiologist tells me that we don't give people who are prone to depression such pills or when a person develops depression in the treatment with blockers we stop them, this is how my journey began, 5 years ago many problems at work, problems in the family, a lot of stress and my old cardiologist started me this treatment which in the end they did me , worse, and recently I went to a psychiatrist and he diagnosed me with anxiety and depressive disorder and prescribed me escitalop ram to take and along the way to stop atenolol complicated the whole thing to me I am one of the few who should not have been on b blocker treatment
so no beta blocker or atenolol? how do you feel now?
I'm still bad, I haven't made the decision if I should stop the atenolol first, or start the escitalopram and after one to two months stop the atenolol, the best I found of the b blockers was nebivolol I slept a lot better but it gave me frequent headaches and worsened the tinnitus I had before these pills
have you heard of Metoprolol (beta blocker)that is the one they want me to take for a-fib. Why do you think beta blockers bother sleep?
so metoprolol is one of the best pills in the category, my contribution is to take the pill as your doctor told you, he definitely prescribed it for your health, you take it as normal and you will continue as normal as if you don't it is taken let the pill do its job, now if you notice something you don't like talk to your doctor and maybe you need to change the dose or change the time, these pills work wonders for some, opinion don't look on the internet because things will get worse, right now maybe my 53-year-old brother is taking 15 mg bisoprolol and mother 5 mg bisoprolol and they have no problem, because they see the pills on the positive side, they don't have any side effects, and as you know, each of us is different, the pill in your case is very good, maybe if you take it before bed because it has the property besides controlling the heart it also relaxes the body, you will fall asleep better Well, if you have any questions, you can ask them
Also how was your blood pressure before you started the meds and how did it affect that?
I dont know about your drugs specifically, but I have definitely had beta blockers that give me powerfully vivid dreams. And this is apparently a known side effect. So the possibility that they cross the blood:brain barrier is certainly a thing…
