I’m 59 woman in continuous AFib for last 3 months after heart attack. Noticed on occasions I’m waking up in the night to breath. Feeling I can’t get my breath. This has got worse over last few weeks. I’m a normal BMI. I’m also falling asleep at times downstairs 🙈🙈

This is very common indeed with AFIB. Do get in touch with your GP to see about a sleep study.

Hi Ewloe, you're clearly a bit worried as you've gone to the trouble of posting a question and it's one of those which really needs an answer from a medical professional. So I think you should raise your concerns with a medical professional.AF alone can make you breathless, including overnight, plus you have had a heart attack, so it's wholly reasonable to want to get to the bottom of what's causing this.

With regard to 'falling asleep downstairs' tiredness is also exceptionally common if you are taking any beta-blocker medications, but could also easily be due to extra tiredness if you are having sleep apnea

Yes, always take professional advice, not rely on us or Dr Google.

My Dad has AF and sleep apnea. I understand that sometimes he wasn't breathing during the night and then would suddenly wake up with a snort (or something like that). His GP referred him for a sleep study which confirmed it was sleep apnea. He now has a device he wears at night to assist. I would definitely recommend you ask for a sleep study.Best wishes to you.
