About cystoscopy, catheter and scar tissue

Dear friends:

I am a male 82 yrs age and have been on HealthUnlocked for about a year. I have posted my arrhythmia history in these columns.

For 3 months now I have had 2 cystoscopies, a urethra surgery and had to use indwelling catheter for 4 weeks in total. This was all blamed on scar tissue. My complaint was slow urination ( 2min instead of less than a minute for any healthy male). Sometimes I had slight burning during my slower urination. They also found trace of blood.

My prostrate is cancer free , enlarged of course. PSA has been below 2 for the last 10 years. I have managed that by taking a 5mg pill of Finasteride.

I am very fearful of more surgeries coming my way if diy catheter does not work for me due to scar tissue appearing within 3 weeks my urethra surgery.

Are there men in the same boat as I am? It will help me to hear their experience and suggestions.

I'm 74 and had a TURP followed by stricture some three years ago. Now I cath once a week to keep the stricture and/or prostate at bay (Dr ave me Co-Amoxiclav to take at same time to avoid infection but don't always take it as I'm very fussy on hygiene). Like you I have a low PSA (1.6 in blood test) and always before been below 1. I find if I go further than a week it slows a bit from a good 17ml/sec to 13ml/sec. This is a good flow anyway. Not sure about the 1 min you say should take to pee and it would depend on how much there is to empty. Where did you get that figure from? I find I need to pee when 250ml is there but can hold on if necessary for 500ml. I tend to regularly use the test strips to keep an eye on things. Important I find to keep hydrated so urine is not too strong so could burn.
