Is Digoxin a high risk drug

Has anyone suffered from Digoxin toxicity, what were your symptoms and how did you recover. I am very slowly recovering from an Atrial Flutter cardioversion 6 week ago. I was then started on Digoxin 1.25 along with Rivaroxipan and reduced Bisopropolol 2.5. Doc thought the flutter was something to do with the Flecainide I started 3 months earlier. I still have some ectopics (now only PVCs I think) and I am fatigued and light headed, normally worst about 1 hour after taking the medication and lasting for 4 to 6 hours. Not sure if its the medication or still recovering from the Cardioversion. Being in such an inactive debilitated state for so long is not good, I have an ablation booked in 7 weeks but was expecting to feel much better by now. Any advised will be most welcome.

Hi.

Digoxin is notorious for its difficulty with some people. I had awful side effects particularly in the long term (months). It can also hit into the brain when taken, bad high, feelings of vacancy and giddiness and whatever else. As you seem to be taking bisoprolol as well, it seems your time of taking your meds can be pretty awful. You might look for a review of your meds. Time to change.

Flecainide can do that. It can push the beat into flutter rather than sinus rhythm and make things worse.

Its unlikely the cardioversion will have left you feeling so awful. However as you have the ablation in 7 weeks it might be a case of hanging in until then.

I would seek to change.

Be well

Phil

Hi Phil,

Thank you for your advise, looks like it's the Digoxin as I also have that vacant/dizzy feeling for a few hours after taking it. Strange thing is that I am good in the mornings before taking the Medes. I will try to see me GP to see what the Docs say now that I know that I should not be feeling this way.
