You have my sympathy. My SVTs are always preceded by the feeling that I'm about to faint, I cling on to something and then the rapid beats begin. I've tried to teach myself not to panic but it's difficult when this happens in a public place. I too live alone and am normally quite content with my situation but the night time SVTs are frightening when one is alone . Drinking very cold water and breathing deeply seem to help a little., then I try to read to distract myself from the heartbeats. Is there anyone you can phone - apart from medical services - when you feel the symptoms? I don't know where you live but try to find a local support group if you can.; feeling that one is not alone in suffering these symptoms can be reassuring. I wish you well.

Just know that svt itself isn’t life threatening. Try to remain calm when it happens. Ask your doctor about ways you can try to get your heart rate back to normal in your own (putting face in ice water, putting thumb in mouth and blowing, etc. None of these work for me, but for some they do)

I’ve had svt a 2-3 times a year the last 2 years. I’m on medication now and it seems to be helping. Doctor wants me to have an ablation so I don’t have to keep paying money to go to ER and get it back to a normal rate. I’m holding off for now as I’m too scared to do it and hope the medicine keeps working. I’ve never felt like passing out from mine, but I know that it does happen to people with svt and is not rare.

Look online for some of the support forums that deal with this and maybe find some comfort in the posts and replies.

I just back and saw your reply... I thank you for all of your info.. I never heard of those ways to try to stop them~ But it sure does make sense as when they took me to the ambulance the cold ocean air hit me and it converted back before i had to go into the amb! So that ice cold water sure does make sense, as well as trying the other idea's as well! Gosh thanks a lot for all that info... and I will look for some of the support forums you mentioned. so kind of you SpeaktheTruth :)) Merci~

No problem! I hope you feel better now. Look up vagal maneuver for svt and it will give you different things to try to stop the fast heart rate.

I found it all very scary to begin with, now it’s such a nuisance!! I’m told to call 999 after 30 minutes,I do feel faint sometimes, but on the last two episodes I’ve managed to stop them by coughing continuously,it took about 10 minutes...good luck and remember you’re not alone x

Dear Porthole1, Never heard of this maneuver to help either~ But I will try it for sure, I am making a list of these different maneuver's you wonderful replyer's have let me know about~ Can't imagine how grateful I am, then again I bet you all can as we all started with it being new and scary at one time, I suppose, but I know you're just saying: "I am not alone", means so much just to see it & hear it! So thank you so much Porthole1 for replying and the manuever to try. So kind of all of you who replyed , you all are quilty of making me feel Happy:)) Merci beaucoup <3 *-*
