Advice. Please.

I recently had hysterectomy four weeks ago and had a few questions about it. My doctor doesn’t know and I’m not due back to see my specialist for two more weeks. Also he did not give me any info on this. Experiencing several

Things but one has been sciatica in both sides. Another is constipation and then of course fatigue. I’d like to hear your experiences on this? I’m just not sure what I’m expected to expect after the operation.

Hi, I’m yet to have my hysterectomy (hopefully next month!) but from the reading up I’ve done the constipation & fatigue are very normal. Are you still taking pain relief? As this can cause constipation, try & drink plenty of water & increase ur fibre intake, also a lady I work with has recommended Glycerol Suppositories, apparently they worked very well for her after her hysterectomy. I’m surprised your GP didn’t offer to prescribe you something to help! From what I’ve read about fatigue, it can take a good 6-8 weeks for your body to recover, it’s major surgery you’ve been through! Try & pace yourself, don’t do too much too soon, at 4 weeks post-op you should still be taking it easy. The sciatica could be related to the type of procedure you had & if you had a spinal block??? Or could be due to you lying in an awkward position for a prolonged period of time?? If I were you I would revisit my doctors surgery & see a different GP!!!! They should help you with these problems or at least give you an information leaflet (really the hospital should have issued you with one on your discharge) hope my limited knowledge has helped a little?! Take care xx

I had my total hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy on 6 Feb. I went back to part time work at 6 weeks but was still very fatigued, I think that my energy levels are only just getting back to normal. I still have problems with bowel movements and have to take laxatives. As tweetburd suggests your pain may be related to your procedure but don’t suffer in silence! Your surgeon will be able to answer your questions at your 6 week check but if you are getting anxious I think you should see your GP. Good luck and it will get better, honest! x

Hi I’m 10 weeks post TAH and still have fatigue. I took dulcoease for BM as the co codamol made me constipated. I also had back pain and the hospital physio suggested pelvic tilts while laying on bed with knees bent. I also asked my GP at my last appointment as I still had back and hip pain and she said it’s due to weakness in your muscles due to healing. So I’ve started a really basic Pilates class 2 weeks ago and told the instructor about my op and it seems to be helping. Any other questions just give me a shout xx
