I'm awaiting a date for my total hysterectomy and excision of endo. I'm desperately trying to save some pennies to cover the time I'll need off work for recovery - I'm a single mam, with a mortgage and all the usual bills to worry about.
I also suffer from ME and wondered what impact this may have on the recovery time. I realise everyone is different and each recovery experience unique but it would be good to hear from anyone who has a similar diagnosis and has been through the op.
Best wishes to you all x

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy 8 weeks ago on Thursday and have to say I feel good, not anything like as sore or tired as I expected. 😊 Although the tiredness was definitely an issue for the first 6 weeks. However, I worked hard to get quite fit before hand and it paid off. But my arthritis has been worse due to hormonal change 😕
I don't know if there is a connection between hormones and ME but it could make it worse or 6 weeks enforced rest could help. 😊
How long have you booked off work? I would say 6 weeks minimum, 8 if you can. But it depends on your job, anything physical could be longer.
That's reassuring - very glad to hear your recovery's going well. I suspect the hormonal changes will have some impact on the ME, same as on your arthritis, as according to some recent research they're both auto immune conditions (although the jury does still seem to be out on this).
I was thinking around the 6 week mark, just to make sure I don't come back too soon and cause an ME flare up. I have a desk based job so that should be ample time...
I'd wondered about working on my core muscles beforehand but have never felt well enough for such a long time. Sounds like you really thought this all through and were well prepared.
