This is our May 2020 Reading Rabbits Book Posting. You can post your comments and suggestions about any book/magazine/newspaper that does/doesn't have to do with any medical issues on this posting. You can mention about your favorite authors, as well. This posting will be pinned to the Pinned Posts for easier access.
I had started reading: "The Outsider", by Stephen King a few days ago. It started out a little slowly, but it's picking up some steam. The story is dealing with a crime that was done to a young boy that was on a Little League team and a lot of the evidence from the witnesses that are being interviewed by Detective Anderson say that they believe it was the actual Coach who was behind the horrible crime. The boy was 11-years-old.
I'm right now on page 46. The book is 561 pages when you include the Author's Note from Stephen King. I will give some updates on how far I have gotten when it's possible.
Okay, now to you! What have you all been reading since last month's Monthly Book Posting? Can't wait to hear all about it!

I'm not reading a book at the moment because I'm busy doing an Open University Future Learn screen writing course. If I get a chance to read a book I will put a post on the site.
There are loads of online courses that start on various dates throughout the year. The screenwriting course is just 2 weeks but it has been extended so that those accessing it can finish it. I recently completed a creative writing course that lasted 8 weeks. You enrol online and when the course start you get an email that you click on, log on and then start that week's learning. A new email is sent every week for that week's modules.
This sounds really good to know! Thank you for letting us know about it.ππ
Hi Leah, Iβm glad youβre enjoying The Outsider so it will be good to hear how you get on.
Iβve just finished reading Jack Kerouacβs lost novel The sea is my brother and I love how he writes because you can imagine yourself being there as his writing is so descriptive as he captures the mood the smells and how he describes the emotions of his characters is so astute I do envy people who can write like this.
Itβs about a merchant seaman who meets some people one is a college lecturer who is disenchanted and he joins him and goes to sea on a merchant vessel and itβs captivating.
I read Love It, Take a Break, Bella, Woman's Own, Chat etc. I read an article last week about a young lad that had the same condition as my 4 year old granddaughter, JIA (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis), it was interesting.
That's good that you were able to catch up on all those articles/magazines. My goal is to read as many books and be done with them by the time the lockdown ends for all of us (no matter where we are living).
I have a feeling you're right about that one. The worst part is, if you listen to the TV or radio, everyone is being told any day now it'll be done, but I know that's wrong.
I believe it! There was a news report today at breakfast saying that there were people all together and throwing some party. I don't get how they think they are above the rest of us and not think they won't get sick! It's terrible, but what can someone do if they are home watching this? I haven't been out of my house since I stopped working at the end of Friday, March (don't laugh!) 13th.
I have so much to say about this, hopefully I will get to it tomorrow. And it's World Book Night next week...!
But wouldn't it be a nice thing to post this to the Positive Wellbeing in Isolation group as well? I would be up the creek without a paddle without reading, I must say! More on this one soon...
The posting will be posted on Positive Wellbeing in the next few weeks. I do their postings at the last week of each month for the new month. Thank you for asking about it!
Oh, new tiles for the bathroom? A few years ago, I had to get a repair person to come and put in tiles since some started to fall off the wall. First time for anything-- and everything, I guess.
All the characters in the book ended up having their lives changed romantically at the end and yes I enjoyed it and it took my mind off the covid 19 situation for a while.
Iβm glad you enjoyed The Choice. How long was it?
You donβt have to do book reports, but you can always tell us a little about the books you read. We have a badge with the Reading Rabbitsβ same as the monthly book postingβs name. Would you like to have a badge? I can assign it to you for the HE group.ππ
Wow! Thatβs a great list of books to be starting soon. Sorry the House of Lies wasnβt the way you were expecting it to be. There had been a book I read years ago like that and I kept going to see if it was going to get better!ππ
I don't read much fiction but I am a fan of Stephen king, Charles Dickens. I like psychological thrillers based on true events. A Short History of Nearly Everything, that was a good read. xx
I read it a couple of years ago. I've not bought a book for a while now and have just started browsing for a good read. I had to stop reading for a while due to a surgery I had but that's pretty much settled down now. xx
Oh yes, every is fine now, I had a brain surgery about 20 months ago, so it takes a while for everything to settle back down. So I've just started browsing the books looking for one that will attract my attention. xx
I am a big Stephen King fan, I enjoyed his books and his films and he always turned up in his films a bit like Alfred Hitchcock. I think IT had to be my favorite. Do you know all his books, well mostly all on them where based on night terrors he suffered from all his life. That's where he got all his ideas. xx
That's great! How far have you gotten in "You and Me Always"? I'll try to find some time to look it up and see if I can get it on my Wish List for a gift.
Things with Bunny are good. No worries, but she did scratch a little too closely to her eye recently. Not a good idea since none of the Vets here are willing to see non-emergency appointments for pets and/or humans.
Just finished you and me always by Jill mansell this morning which I really enjoyed especially the scene where life changed at the drop of a hat for one of the characters who kept having dating disasters and got what she wanted at the end of the book showing that life can change unexpectedly at any time.
The ending of your book reminds me somewhat of how "The Things We Do For Love" ends up ending. Things aren't always how they seem to be and they are always a surprise every so often.
Started a new book tonight called sunshine at the comfort food cafe by Debbie Johnson which I am enjoying some far.
Reading books isn't cancelled though for entertainment.
Yes, thatβs one reason why I love to read!πππππ
Just started a great book called the seafront tea rooms by Vanessa Greene about a tea room in Scarborough which I am enjoying so far and I am over halfway through it as I couldn't put it down!
I think unchained Melanie by judy Astley will be next on the list and summer at the kindness cafe by Victoria Walters are the next ones on the reading list.
Last year my abusive parents had demanded I stay at that job that I left back in November due to bullying off management there and I had said about the bullying and all they said was I was to ignore them!
If it had been colleagues on my level then yes with them I can ignore them as there's not a lot they can do to me but some things you shouldn't ignore though and problems don't just go away because you ignore them.
Then they had this warped idea that staying in that job had magical powers to keep me safe from another blood clot which was crackers really as anyone can have a blood clot even those who have no history of them and they can happen to people sat at home minding their own business and no mine wasn't all to do with looking for another job when it happened! It probably would have happened anyway no matter what I did or didn't do as things can and do happen and no one is to blame same as this outbreak no ones to blame its just one of those things that happens.
Then after I had been ordered to stay at that job I had an interview for a post at reception at a and e at one of the local hospitals and had gone anyway and tried my best but it wasn't to have been.
Then after work that Friday the day I had the interview I had received a lecture about staying at that job and I had been at the end of my rope that evening and had shouted what part of I don't want to be at that f ing job anymore don't you understand and my friends had said how I must have been at the end of my tether to have shouted that as they say I wouldn't have shouted that for no reason and they said how what had upset me was their attitude rather than the job in itself as I do know the worst thing is I don't get the job and that's not the end of the world is it?
Then because I stood my ground I have ended up being punished by not being spoken to and this has gone on for nearly a year now but I feel it's an accidental favour and I'm better off as I'm enjoying the peace and quiet not having to put up with that rubbish!
One thing I have learned is it's not the silly things in themselves that cause the problems no there's always something deeper going on as I feel all that was just done to be spiteful for the fun of it myself due to their own insecurities and if it wasn't the job hunting in itself it would have been something else!
I will do what I feel is the right thing for me as nothing is guaranteed to anyone in this life.
You're exactly right for saying what you did. If your parents and friends don't understand that, it's on them. When the time comes for you to get a new job/career, you'll know it.
My friends were absolutely shocked when I told them what I had done that Friday night when I had sworn the way I had done saying I must have been really cross to have done that and how I wouldn't have sworn like that for no reason!
To be fair my friends have been extremely supportive after I was devastated after I had left that job last November.
I am fine about it now and have accepted it and time has helped me come to terms with it.
I would be terrified by Stephen King. I have too much imagination for horror stories! I'm currently reading a Reginald Hill crime novel, "Good Morning, Midnight" . I read it for the first time a few years ago but can't remember the ending. Quite a few of his books were made into the tv series Dalziel and Pascoe.
Not quite, I think the phrase "edited for language" might apply...however the swearing isn't gratuitous and reflects the character and culture Hill is writing about. There are also a fair few literary references but the books are still accessible. The plots are well thought out and I find the characters believable. I have enjoyed detective and mystery fiction since childhood, starting out with the Famous Five and Secret Seven! As an only child I spent hours and hours with my face in a book.
Halfway through unchained Melanie that I started yesterday by Judy astley.
I had taken this book with me to outpatients when I had my 3 month check up with the specialist after I had blood clots in my lungs as company to take my mind off the appointment as i had been frightened!
I had ended up discharged from the clinic after the appointment and i had cried in relief!
