Thanks for the post, it's inspirational.
Do you live in Nigeria?
I am not aware that the population is growing in Europe. But the contrary.
Maybe it's growing globally?
I know the title is biodiversity but may I add to the 'what we can do' list: waste less food and waste less in general.
An incredible amount of food lands in the rubbish bin, if it even gets to the customers at all, or thrown away earlier in the supply chain.
Also, as you suggest local/seasonal food, a great quantity of plastic, paper, even fuel, etc. needed (or not) for transporting and storing the food can be spared. This way we also protect the environment, and ought to make food resource cheaper and eventually better.
Yes ma, am a Nigerian. Thanks for your suggestion.
Okay, son.
Have you lived in the UK or other European, etc. country?
Do you study nutrition or economics in Niga? I can see you are aged 21.
No ma, i have never live in UK. May be I will come to pursue masters degree. I am now a final year student of B. Sc nutrition and dietetics Bayero University Kano.
Nice study.
If you want to come to the UK next academic year, you must have some firm plans and applications, already.
If you are willing to share them and it is more convenient to you, you can send me a private message. I am not sure how to do it but you can surely find it out.
What is the topic of your thesis? And your specialty/interest? Do you specialise in BSc, already or only in the MSc stage?
I am sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say.
Is overpopulation is issue or is not an issue?
The population issue is largely solving itself - as countries develop the rate of population growth drops dramatically. In most of western europe its already well below the replacement rate, and africa and asia not far behind.
I don't have a copy of the UN forecasts to hand but from what I recall the global population has almost reached maximum and will start to decline.
Thanks. Then there is no problem with overpopulation, is there?
But food supply can still be, and is a concern.
It would be nice if the total was less, and there are all sorts of issues if everyone wants to eat the same animal based diet as eaten in western europe.
But I think the population trend is a rare piece of good news - we're not experiencing a mathusian style population explosion.
As far as I remember a statistic said that in Western Europe we throw away 10% of the food. If you have an exact figure, please share.
I could not believe my eyes when I first saw Tesco's slogan, 'love food, hate waste' as it seems such a big problem that they put it onto the food bags.
Also, the population tends to overeat.
There is a global imbalance.
No, the global population hasn't reached maximum, but rather it is increasing. As of UN says the global population will increases from 7.3 billion in 2015 to 8.3 billion by 2030.

I think we can believe the UN on population. Once we start going down the conspiracy theory route rational discussion becomes impossible as you have the latitude to cherry pick and ignore whatever you want.
There may not be a need to expand food production but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen.
If the current global population wishes to to eat a north american style meat centric diet the farming of animals for meat and associated crop production to feed these animals is going to increase. That's capitalism at work, and the planet is just colateral damage.
Eating meat is the biggest contribution to reducing biodiversity imo
