What types of fruits do you like? I have an orange that is a Halo brand every day at my job for lunch with a meal bar. At home, I eat apples, peaches, plums, grapes and melons/cantelope/pineapple.

Sure, but it depends on if you take any meds. that interfere with any of those fruits. I can only have Halo oranges because they don't have as much potasium as regular oranges. No bananas if you are on bp meds.. Strawberries and grapes are fine.-:)

Why no bananas? I've never heard that before? I get a lot if cramp and believe bananas help? 😕

Are you on BP meds.? The bananas have potassium that's too much! Like regular oranges!

I've never heard that they were contra-indicated 😕 Going for BP review next week so I will ask

Hi Donna,

I have a very sweet tooth, but try to get my fix from fruit.

I keep fresh fruit & a nut jar on my kitchen table, so they're the easiest thing to grab. I take an iron supplement, most days, so have this mid-morning with a red grapefruit for vitamin C, or an orange.

I always carry a tub of nuts & dried fruit when I'm out. Dried mango & pineapple are my favouries for a sugar hit, & the nuts provide protein, selenium, healthy fats, & sustained energy. I use about 1 part each of dried fruit, brazils, walnuts, & 2 parts almonds. I put fresh or dried fruit in kefir, to give it a second fermentation, & have this with more fruit & nuts for my breakfast, lunch or supper.

I prefer 70% cocoa chocolate to the sweet fatty stuff, so have a piece of something good that's got health benefits, if I have a craving.

Sugar snap peas & mange tout are also sweet, high in protein, & healthy to nibble.

BadHare do you not find that kefir suppresses your sweet tooth?

It's not as bad as it used to be, but my consumption is high due to the fruit I eat.

I used to love kefir that had been left overnight with a handful of dried fruit in it. Amazing :) and better than any fruit yogurt I have ever tasted. But I have hardly anything sweet these days.

BadHare 's suggestions are good especially the grapefruit, 70% chocolate , and kefir. The Magnesium in the chocolate stimulates the fat-burning hormone adiponectin. Grapefruit is one of the calorie neutral foods that use up as many calories to digest as they provide (celery is another). Lemon water or apple cider vinegar shortly before a meal (but not immediately) can help burn the calories off. Berries are another booster.

I don't think grapefruit is calorie neutral, but it does contain naringenin, which is a bitter substance that encourages the liver & gall bladder to produce more bile, etc, for digestion & breaking down fat. Bitter foods are also good for curbing sugar cravings, my favourites being rocket & watercress.

I like to put ACV on salads, & start the day with green tea & organic lemon. I use both fruits to ferment my kefir a second time.

a lot of people list it as one of the supposedly negative calorie foods but it does contain a few so, with its effect on fats and high thermogenicity, I normally list it under my calorie neutral foods. It is best if you can add the peel as well. Lots of good stuff in citrus peel.

Young dandelion also makes for a good bitter leaf.

Only if it's organic & unwaxed!

Are you talking about Metabolism boosters?

Some of the above is very inaccurate. Bananas are one the healthiest thing you can eat. The only thing you can't have on blood pressure meds is grapefruit.

Fruit is unbelievably important.

Not what you're looking for?
