The stile in the forest ...🀨

β€’13 Replies

Hi everyone,

I came across this rustic stile in the middle of the forest today and thought how bizarre is that, so I tested it and it works... I assume its to keep wild boar out of an area of saplings as the wild boar are merciless if they smell food and will dig anything up.

Its a grey over cast day here but that doesn't matter as it was lovely in the forest and the exercise is great and I love it, I walked just over 4.5 miles (9400 steps) and came home and had some home made cake and a well deserved cuppa... 😊

How funny. I couldn’t see the wire fencing to begin with and thought it was a stand alone stile. Lovely photo. Wild boar, how exciting. The Forest of Dean has the largest population of wild boar πŸ— in England, so I know you like to walk Jerry but how fast can you run πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ:::::::::::::::πŸ’¨ πŸ˜€ Ali 🌱

Thanks Ali, nor could I so I had to investigate it, the fence looks new too.

Now if a silly wild pig πŸ– came for me in the forest I'd be up the nearest tree in a flash...none of this running away malarky. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ πŸ–...LOL πŸ˜‚

Hi Hidden

That is quite bizarre to come across a Rustic Stile in the middle of a forest - I think your theory about the Wild Boar is probably correct. Glad you enjoyed your walk, and I've just been admiring the delicious Cherry & Almond Cake you enjoyed.

I've heard them Hidden but not seen them. Parked up near to one of the paths after a walk having a packed lunch and reading before driving back home, lots of snuffling and grunting!

Hi Fran, what a lovely place to stop for a packed lunch and a walk. 😊

I hear them at night because they come up by my home and dig the driveway up, they squeal sometimes too which can be disconcerting.

I had hedgehogs living in my back garden at my last house and they grunt at night and that spooked me at first. πŸ¦”

I once lived where brown bears roamed through my yard...sooooo glad l am not there anymore.

in reply to

Wow brown bears 🐻 that must be an odd sight seeing a brown bear strolling in the neighbourhood. 😲

Very odd & frightening. We were in the mountains in northern Washingon. One day l was walking barefoot with my 2 year old... when a bear met us on the path... we stood very still until the bear slowly walked back into the forest (it seemed like 1,000 hours) . Beautiful place but l was extremely happy when we moved.

in reply to

Sounds scary to me but what a memory.

in reply to

It was scary... not knowing what the bear might do... plus my 2 year was not predictable, usually full of energy & always trying to run a head of me. He stood like a statue that day while holding my hand... We were truly blessed!

Hi Jerry

What a wonderful find in the forest. Love the photo... but what is a stile? I don't think l have heard the word before.

I live in the USA & the city near me is giving massive pain of mass confussion & frustration... l need a word to discribe this feeling... can you help me? Granni B

in reply to

Hi Granni B, a stile is like a fence with steps so people can climb over it but it keeps animals in.

I think you’re finding the city frenetic, overtly energetic in a frantic manner causing unease. That’s what it sounds like to me. So I’m sorry you feel this. 😊

in reply to

Thanks Jerry ... today l learned two new words. The idea of a stile is ingenious. Frenetic sounds perfect for my situation. I will meet one more time with the city, hopeful we can sort things out but doubtful. You have been most helpful.
