i need a change in my life a purpose a reason to g... - Headway
i need a change in my life a purpose a reason to get out of bed in a morning
as much as i would like to be able to suggest something, it all depends on you
and what you can find that drives or fulfils you, as well as something you know you can manage, i hope you can find something which helps
nick, are you having treatment for depression?
No why
nick, I asked about treatment for depression because of ,what appear to be, mood swings. Last week you were so upbeat about getting out & meeting new people and now everything has crashed again. Either this is a pattern of behaviour which looks remarkably like depression, and needs addressing, or something has happened during the past few days to disappoint you and bring you down.
The last we heard from you was when you said you'd been to the Headway meet, but with no comments about how it went. Did something unpleasant happen or did it just not meet your expectations? It's plain to see how everyone here wants to give you support, but you need to follow through to allow that .
If you feel there is no explanation for your change of mood then it might be that you would benefit from some type of therapy. One thing is certain, you need help but, at present, you are just going round in circles.
Come on nick, keep this line of communication open & show yourself and everyone here that you mean business. You're not afraid of possible pressure are you?
well said cat, and Nick you know we will all help you as much as we can just might be worth seeing you doc to at least rule depression out, if nothing else
thanks i feel a bit beater and am going to another headway meet tomorrow by myself again that will make me feel better again because i will be with people thats what i need is friends i can do stuff with
I understand how you feel. I feel the same! (& I am on tablets for depression!) before my accident I used to be so busy, doing things for others & enjoying helping people wherever I could. Now I can't & have to accept people helping me at the moment. I think it's one of life's lessons - learning to receive (gracefully!) as well as give. I am looking forward to being able to have a 'Life Purpose' again but i think i'll start with focusing on making my life contented & for now that will be making my garden & home a nice place to be (instead of being a tip!). Keeping it simple for now! Hope you can find something manageable too. Good luck.
nick, i have said to you every journey starts with a single step, we all understand how you feel and the problems you have ,but you have to start somewhere sometime, you have had loads of support here , you have had the answers now go and try to help yourself, lots of love john, xxx.
Hello Nick,
It is great to see that you are still determined to find a new direction to your life
Being with people and doing things with them is just one way to build relationships and friendships, why not also look at doing things with people on-line? A friendship that is built on-line is just as important and real as one made face to face. Hopefully the comments on this board will show you that people that you have never met care about you and want to help you move forward. Being on-line also levels things out, you are talking through a keyboard and so are we.
As others have suggested you seem to be at a stage where you need more professional support, I seem to remember that Headway offered to help you arrange a meeting with a neurophysiologist, if you have not done that yet it would be a good thing to do. Maybe you could write a letter or email to explain how you are feeling and what you want to change before the meeting with them? Or you could do the same with your GP?
Whatever you do keep on reaching out, things can change, please keep on looking for the way to make that happen for you.
God Bless,
thanks
i have been refereed by headway to see a neurophysiologist so just waiting for some 1 to contact me
That is great news!
There is a post on this board (yesterday?) asking about what a neurophysiologist does and the answers there show how helpful talking to one can be for you. They won't give an instant "cure" of course but I am sure you will find that they understand your difficulties better than anyone else you have talked to and will do their very best to help you find ways to make your situation more bearable.
Someone on the other post also said that it would be good if you can manage to keep a diary or write something to explain your difficulties so that the neurophysiologist can get "up to speed" with your issues as quickly as possible.
Please post again when your appointment comes through and let us know how it goes!
God Bless
I love your honesty Nick, I dont feel like i have a purpose 7 days a week. Most days I really make the effort and force myself into this realm of reality. I have been offered anti-depressants on numerous occasions throughout my recovery and I have refused them knowing what it has done to friends of mine, changing them, it is these moments that keep me strong and focused enough to carry on, moving forward without the need for false perceptions, I want to see this world for what it is. You have the honesty and strength of character, you just need to get out more and be yourself!
thank u
