I've got a VP shunt after RTA in 1994/am on carbamazepine daily.

Does anyone have any advice/experience of working abroad (ie as TEFL tutor) when also need regular medication.

Glad this forum's here, have been holding back for too long now, cos of over-thinking things.

Hi christophee,

Thank you for your post. I hope some members can post a reply to you, but in this early stage of our community it's possible that nobody has experience of this particular issue.

Some things to consider when working abroad and on regular medication are:

> Are professionals involved in your care happy for you to travel?

> Some medications need regular blood test so will you have access to this sort of supportive care, as well as someone to interpret the results and act upon them if necessary?

> Will you have access to prescriptions and is carbamazepine called by a different name in the country you are visiting?

> Does the country have reciprocal healthcare agreements with the UK and if not what costs would be involved?

Having spoken to our helpline, they'd be happy to talk this through with you if you need any further guidance. Call them on 0808 800 2244 or email helpline@headway.org.uk.

Best wishes,

Headway
