Need advice

Sorry to hear of your dad's predicament Ricky.
For support and advice you can contact the Headway helpline on (Freephone) 0808 800 2244 on weekdays.
Do bear in mind that most of us with brain injuries don't fully recover. Mine was a brain haemorrhage 11 years ago and I still have memory, mobility and fatigue issues, but mostly cope independently.
Two weeks is very early days for possible progress, so don't give up hope m'love.
All best wishes for positive signs, and keep in touch... Cat. x

Hi Ricky, welcome to our site but probably not where you really want to be, it’s a lot on your shoulders but you will have your dads best interest at heart. The doctors are pre warning you, and will not know for sure until your dad starts his recovery, we are all individuals and recover at different rates, and doctors do get things wrong, you can get lots of support and guidance off here, and headway helpline are always there to help, so you are not on your own. Your dad and yourself are on a long journey, I wish you lots of luck love Alice xx
As I have said before on here, the medics wil not want to build false hope and often advise a pessimistic view as they did to my wife whilst I was in surgery. I have since had that view confirmed by one of the medics who was present at the time too. But I am lucky and back but it does take time and patience. Obviously the severity of the injury and whereabouts he hit his head on the concrete can cause differing damage and recovery rates.
Most of all, you must look after yourself to be of any use during his rehab which can take months and years.
So feeling overwhelmed is not unusual (in fact that is also one symptom many survivors have too but in a slightly different way to yourself).
Talk to the Headway helpline too. They do seem to understand better than other talking therapies. And feel free to come back here regularly if needs be for help, advice and support from other survivors, carers and the odd medic too.
Stay in touch and let us know progress as well as fears and anxieties.
