Pregabalin

I've been put on Pregabalin recently (2 .5 years into a TBI) for extreme depression and disruptive sleep. It definitely helps me to sleep but my thinking is so weird and slightly hallucination - I don't nkow what to do - life is a nightmare at the movement. We are trying to move because present house is unsuitable but I just can't handle whats involved with everything and trying to deal with the thought of clearing out years of STUFF...so much STUFF and solicitors and estate agents and all the other `rap that's involved - when the pressure starts I just want to die... really

good morning,

I’m sorry to hear this!

I myself have trialed a number of anti depression meds and what I’ve learned is that, there is no one size fits all or indeed miracle drug.

Also bare in mind that when transferring medications, they can and do take around 8-10 weeks to fully ‘work’ in the first few weeks as you are adapting, you should notice some improvements, but please just give it time, and don’t be afraid to speak with you GP and tell them your truths.

Moving house is always a stressful period, I am hoping that you have the right set of helping hands in place for this. From my experience, it’s important to take a knock on your pride and just ask for help, there’s no shame in this.

In terms of the pressure cooker - please just take a look around yourself, and appreciate what you do have. Also really important to ensure you take regular breaks and focus on something else that you enjoy or find interesting to take your mind away from a stressful situation or worry of the future.

I hope this helps a little, take care of yourself.

Hi, pregabalin is usually an adjunct to antidepressants as a mood stabiliser, it helps prevent the swings in mood that can occur. It can help with sleep, but after so long it possibly is not giving the desired effect. You can ask for this to be reviewed, it needs to be withdrawn slowly to prevent rebound. Perhaps you may require a different anti-depressant to help. I've just started to sort out the stuff I have acquired, one box at a time is about my limit, at what point I get to the point of enough is anyone's guess, but I have had a few trips to the dump so far, so I must be getting there.

Hi, I have been put on Pregabalin but for its pain-blocking capacity. If I miss a dose, I can occasionally suffer panic attacks but I have not noticed any other psychological effect. There is no sign that the quacks will explore where this neuropathic pain originates. I feel it most in my legs but it could be the damage in my brain or an old back injury even. They don't seem to care much.

My mother was put on pregabalin for pain, she didn't get any great pain relief from it, her mood was more even, but she didn't like the way it made her feel mentally muddly - so has come off it. Everyone reacts differently to drugs, the important thing is to find one that works for you - or where the balance of benefits and side effects are tolerable to you personally. Pair of Boots is right that you should always taper off meds and possibly take something to replace them at the same time.

I still have the hardest time making decisions (my old job was all about decisions!) so clearing out is a really hard thing to do, though sometimes the impulsiveness that seems to come from a lack of decision making skills can be quite useful for a clearing out task... I have a backroom stuffed with stuff which needs sorting out, so feel for you. Kind and firm people that just ask yes or no questions, are good to have around while you're doing it!
