Good afternoon, I just learned in the last 2 weeks that I have suffered a mini stroke. And I'm having a lot of anxiety and trouble sleeping. Is this normal? Do others have these as well?

Hi Blue, yes this is relatively common, speak to your GP or the hospital, there are things that can help including talking therapy and medication. The Headway website has information.

A TIA will worry you and that will affect your sleep. I had a stroke in 2016 and my sleep is still ot the best. The Stroke Association have a booklet "My Stroke" that may help with some of your questions. These days, there is much better engagement (lived-experience) with people who have had a TIA / stroke. Check to see if there's a stroke group in your area. In Bristol with have the excellent Stroke HIT and, Life After Stroke groups. Stroke HIT puts us in touch with Universities carrying out stroke studies, Life After Stroke provides expert advice each month, and the Stroke Association provides projects such as redesigning their web site. You'll probably find that the groups usually meet by Zoom, but for some University studies it will be by Teams.

Yes perfectly normal. I’ve seen it in plenty of people. The doctors will give you meds if you see the right one.

One of the best things I recommended to people to try and help, is self-help with the muse device if you have the extra money. (I see they have a 15% off sale on now). I own the first version and it was helpful for many brain injury related things. I even bought 3rd party apps to see my brain functioning and where there were issues which explained my odd behaviour.

The Muse device overview from their website:

Muse is a smart headband that acts as your personal meditation coach. Its advanced sensors can detect when your mind wanders and give you gentle audio cues to bring your focus back to the present. With Muse, meditation really is as simple as 1, 2, 3.

Not sure if this is allowed, but if we can post links on here this is the website:

You can use it to help train your mind and reduce your anxiety. It’s pretty great seeing the results without having to visit doctors.
