Supporting a child with a brain injury advice needed

Hello,

I'm a parent to a 4 years old boy, who was hit by a car while on his scooter and suffered injury to his right side of the brain. The injury is moderate and we are struggling not only to deal with the new reality but also to understand the various rehabilitation options and to find the best treatment possible, so would appreciate support from anyone that has gone through a similar situation - any help and/or guidance would be appreciated.

I can only suggest that you contact Headway, details are pinned to this page, The Children's Trust (brain injury hub), and the Child Brain Injury Trust.

I'm sure there are other sources of information, and I'm sure that others will respond to your post. 🍀

Here you should find plenty of parents who either have been through or are right now going through managing a child's brain injury.

I think you are wise to seek support from those who fully understand the complex issues including the traumatic effect on family members and carers.

Hopefully, the Child Brain Injury Trust will prove to be a good starting point for you.

As someone who suffered a brain injury as a child I just wanted to say he's so lucky to have you looking out for him. My parents and their ongoing support through and after my tbi ensured it didnt (despite some physical affects like epilepsy) stop me from leading a largely unaffected life. I've gone on to achieve some pretty amazing things like living abroad, meeting and marrying my wife and having a very successful career. Please understand, I'm not here to gloat, I just wanted to acknowledge that parents like you of young tbi sufferers are amazing and make so much difference. Good luck!

Thanks very much for your note - as many parents, we are trying our best. We got into the children's trust at Tadworth and is doing very well despite his injury!
