Confused about strokes

Hi. I am aware of what a stroke is and I have worked with individuals that have had strokes. This was many years ago when I was able to work!

My question is…. Can a person have mini strokes for years and be unaware that they are happening? I had a TBI over 10 years ago and it left me permanently disabled. My days are about trying to do what I can and controlling pain.

Many symptoms that I have had have all been put down to the TBI. However, recently I have been sent to a stroke specialist and they have seen changes in my MRIs that they think are due to numerous mini strokes. Currently undergoing tests and will not have the results until September.

Has this happened to anyone else? If it has what was the outcome, treatment wise?

Thank you

Hi Superstar, this is possible. If they happen while asleep, you may not know anything about them, or you may get a sensation that doesn't stand out. They are called Transient ischaemic attack (TIA). Don't go getting all stressed, the Stroke team will say what needs to be done, if anything.

It's easy for me to say don't get stressed, I've been on yet another brain journey for the last year and a half investigating possible changes. I got meself in a twist at the onset. A year and half on I still don't have any definitive answers, and it doesn't help worrying. If it is something to worry about the stroke team will let you know soon enough.

Good luck 🍀
