Hiya Ored, are U the carer or person who has had the brain / head injury ???
& I was thinking, always nice to hear a bit about people, so if U fancied writing a bit in your profile t let us kno a bit about yourself, that would be great Xxx
Sounds like someone who's had a head injury. I get distracted all the time, especially on the Internet. Every intention of doing one thing & then a butterfly goes past ;o)
Well said ored. It is hard, especially when we don't know what the difficulties are until they become a difficulty, and the ones we do know, we can't explain in words. 🍀
I've never been one to dress things up. It is tough, in time, it is like you acclimatise, develop masking tactics, become desensitised, find coping strategies. It does get easier 🍀
It will need to get easier for the sake of my neighbours. They must think I'm mental. But it's it's been like that since before all the changes. You do become desensitised.
I am expecting a tough, emotionally complicated but ultimately positive day here too.
My wife has made good progress recently - no longer on any tubes or wires (apart from PEG) and with some consciousness and very limited communication.
It does mean though that she can be taken off the ward into a waiting area and our kids can see her for the first time since they saw her in resus (and were told there was a very real chance she wouldn't make it through the night).
You're dead right that the impact of the brain injury goes beyond just the injured person. I need to devote a load of time/thought/energy to my wife but also not forget about the impact this is having on the kids. And I know I've got good mates who are looking out for me.
That's great that all the tubes are away and that the kids have been able to see their mum. How old are they? It's tough going no joke. And there are days when you feel like so much good has come out of it and days when defeat sets in. Nice to have a group you can speak to where people understand!!!
