Screw DAI and TBI

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders. My man is in the specialty hospital still. They took his trach out yesterday on the day his mom was able to make it to see him. I'm so anxious for 10 to come so I can see for myself. I can't stop worrying about everything. I want my old life back. This isn't fair

Hi 169. No it is not fair. It never is. I'm sure you do want your old life, as I am sure your man would want his, and other family members theirs. Any traumatic injury has an impact, but most will resolve over a period of time. A brain injury however impacts deeper, it has a global effect on the physical, cognitive, and personality. Adaptions can help the physical. The cognitive, and personality is more dependent on the amount of damage sustained.

Will your old life return? Will your man's? I don't know. Consider contacting the Headway helpline, contact details are pinned to this page, they can help you with information, and support, they will help your man, and his family.

At this stage though, no one can know how life will pan out. It will be stressful and challenging especially for your man. It is a time that you all need to come together in collective support emotionally. Working together, sharing, talking is the best way. 🍀

This is an awful time for you. But your man's brain injury is still very recent in terms of recuperation ; meantime it's distressing for a loved one witnessing the early days.

My son & daughter were horrified seeing me with hands bound, & constantly protesting at being forced to lie flat.

But the reasons for those measures were explained by the consultant and with time, as I became less agitated, restraints were no longer needed. And when it was safe to do so I was given a pillow.

Unlike other organs an injured brain doesn't just heal and return to normal. Coming back from brain injury is a complex and intricate process ; time being the main healer.

You really need to take breaks from visiting now and again for the sake of your own wellbeing m'love. Watching a loved one fighting brain trauma is strange and frightening ....and not necessarily an indication of the outcome. Hang in there...
