My right ear became clogged on Wednesday after hearing the sound of a hammer hitting a nail. I heard the sound through my cell phone while the phone was a foot away from me (through speaker phone). The sound wasn't too loud, but it caused my ear to feel clogged. My doctor checked out the ear and said there was no wax and no damage to the eardrum. What could be causing this clogged feeling? How can this resolve?
Thank you,
Brett

Hi liteglimmer,You may want to find a ear, nose, and throat doc through Headway. Issues with eustation tubes of the ear are more common after a brain injury. A feeling of fullness in the ear and sound going away is often linked to eustation tubes. Though, it could be something else.
Headway may also have other ideas if the type of specialist who can help you.
Hi, if you have ongoing hearing problems, then further investigation is needed. It may be coincidental that this occurred when using the phone, as you say the phone was on speaker, so I am guessing, it was not near your ear.
It could be something minor, akin to what you may experience if flying due to air pressure changes, this sensation can occur due to minor infections, like a cold.
As Leaf said, it could be due to a problem with the tubes, a bit of debris that naturally are present, but can become dislodged and cause altered sensations when they settle in the wrong place.
Have another chat with your GP if the problem persists, a referral to ENT or the audio service may help. 🍀
Thanks for your advice! I still feel this ear clog, but my hearing is fine. It just feels uncomfortable. If it persists for another few days, I'll see the ENT doctor.
I did use cotton buds in the past but then found they were no good and could prove dangerous as well.
I used to have frequent visits to the doctors to get my ear syringed.
I was told that chewing gum, such as Airwaves chewing gum, could help clear the airways.
I now rather do things naturally and I don’t trust doctors/pharmaceutical industry.
Everything can be cured naturally.
Most commercial chewing gum contains aspartame and aspartame can cause many problems.
So now I chew a gum that is aspartame-free and is very good stuff called Peppersmith.
The last time my ears blocked up I used steam to help unblock them.
I filled a small jar with boiling water and poured a few drops on Oregano essential oil into the jar and hovered the side of my face over the jar so the steam went into my ear. It did help.
And now what I am doing to clean my ears naturally is when I have a bath, after the tub is full I pour a few drops of tea tree essential oil into the water, stir it around and the lay on my back so that the water covers my ears.
This helps as well.
You can use other oils. Olive oil is a good one for ears, probably better for ear wax.
I know you said you weren’t clogged with wax but maybe some of the methods I mentioned might help?
