DVLA medical

I applied to get my licence back in January and at long last today I have had a letter from them. It is saying that I need to have a medical at my GP's. I have 2 questions about this. Why do I need to have a medical? Last time I just got my licence back and my second question is what will it consist of? Any advice will be gratefully received.

I am just going through this whole thing with dvla , doesn’t help when they were on strike, managed to get a guy on the phone who said they messed up my form and that I’d have to redo it and send it back. Only to just notify them of the medical condition now going on 2 month roughly

Hey Maureen, Glad to hear you’ve got your licence back as I’m sure it’s been a long time coming! I am just applying for mine back and was asked to speak to my doctor too. I am not sure what the medical is for it if I’m honest. Are you still in the care of a neuro consultant? I have been asked to speak to my consultant by the DVLA to see if I’m eligible for the license which I plan to do in the coming days. I would speak to your consultant and see what the point of this exercise is if I were you.

Sorry I can’t give any details as for the medical but I’m sure all will become apparent in good time.
