Astrazeneca Covid jab

I am receiving my vaccination against the corona virus tomorrow. I have no reservations about receiving the jab, but with the current concerns with blood clotting and the astrazeneca, do I need to be concerned at all after suffering a TBI with a bleed to the brain also. The injury was 4 years ago since, which I have fully recovered. Would appreciate any wisdom ,or ridicule for being so stupid

So as a mid 20 something female, I had my jab and had no symptoms whatsoever, my friend the same age had the shakes and flue like symptoms. I guess everyone is different.

Hi Nina. The consensus from medical experts is that the risk percentage is so incredibly low that we should go ahead. One specialist said avoiding it was comparable to avoiding leaving the house for fear of falling/being hit by a car/being attacked ..(the list goes on).

Your apprehension certainly doesn't warrant ridicule ; it isn't stupid to feel uncertain about something we're unsure of. I had my first around a month ago with no ill effects and awaiting the second. I asked about my haemorrhage and was assured by the doctor at the vaccine centre it wasn't an issue.

I suppose I'm so fearful of the virus itself and its complications that the vaccine seems the preferable choice ! I hope you won't struggle too much in reaching a decision. All best wishes, Cat x

I’ve had both jabs now, and indeed COVID19, bar a slightly sore arm no effect from Vaccine, where as COVID19 was quite unpleasant for a good month or so.

Quite variable in my experience, some folks have no symptoms, others need hospital, and indeed don’t survive.

Hello, my husband will have his soon hes 1year with sustaining TBI, the only reason I postponed is dealing with first year too emotionally distraught and home visits postponed with lockdown, but with home visits commencing this month, I will feel at ease when he has jab to support monitoring. I'm just petrified over reacting or not reacting when he has normal symptoms (left side of body like stroke symptoms still) but hes having it.

I just had a temperature and felt fluey which went in the first 48 hours after the Astrozeneca - probably felt a bit under the weather for a week. Still feel huge relief that I've had the jab.

I had mine on Wednesday. Thursday was awful. I had all the side effects down to the dizziness v and also light sensitivity. Thursday was a bad day. Friday half as bad etc. Astra Zeneca and I are not friends. However others have had theirs and just had a mild headache 😵. I'm 35 so guess not at risk of clots. Didn't stop my mother phoning every 5 seconds to check I hadn't developed one though 😆

Had my first one end Feb and was poorly for a day or so.But now trying to get medical advice ASAP regarding the second one. CVST was my brain illness in 2014 and terrified that there is no evidence on the few of us who have had this in the past and the effects on the vaccination on us.

If my clot hadn't been of the CVST variety in the past I wouldn't be so worried.

My wife and I both had the AZ jab. It made me quite ill for 10 days but glad still glad I had it.

So far as I have seen, the problem of clots occurred after the first dose, not after the second dose, therefore the current advice is to complete the course (the incidence is 1/200,000, not too dissimilar to that of the natural occurrence)

Yes. If I hadn't already had a CVST I would not be too concerned. But since I have been one of the 1 in 5 million already, I'm seeking more advice.

I think if you have concern then you should discuss this with your GP or specialist. I know that the advice from PHE is only related to first dose, no concern has been raised about second dose, but a Dr that has access to your medical history should be able to advise.

Yep, have already put a call into specialists. Obviously not many people have had my condition so difficult to research. Plus not many people have had second doses, so unlikely to have much information to help make a balanced decision.

My only concern is , am I at an increased risk to a blood clot due to my previous bleed, despite sustaining and recovering from my injury 4 years ago, my wife is a little anxious about it , understandably. It's only in light of recent news about the clotting that my concerns have been raised . I'm looking to reassure my family. They've been through enough when I was ill

I had an aneurysm a year and a half ago. I had my first AZ jab a month ago with no side effects at all as far as I know. I think it's completely natural for anyone to be apprehensive about such a new vaccine .

Good luck

Thank you everyone, for taking the time to reply to my post. I have received my astrazeneca jab this afternoon and was suitably reassured by a very helpful and professional nurse. She went on to say that because the bleed to the brain was due to the impact of the crash , and not otherwise. That my odds are high as everyone else's. Back within 6 weeks for the 2nd. Grateful for such an efficient service from the NHS and also to everyone here for replying. Good health to you all👍👍

I’ve had both doses of Pfizer jab and didn’t experience any side affects 😁

Remember how low the 'risk' of these blood clots is. I had mine a couple of weeks ago (I am fifty one). I was really tired that evening, but otherwise fine. my husband (who is perfectly healthy, and has not had a brain injury) was knocked out for most of the weekend. Don't worry!
