Have you seen the Mail on Sunday online - and it might be in the print version as well but care homes for young and old alike are behaving badly in imposing draconian laws to stop even the most basic of visits. For example stopping a Mum from waving to her son through a locked window. Others are only allowing one visit of 30 mins per FORTNIGHT. The Depart of Health & Social Care are NOT supporting this. They say as long as the visitor wears PPE that should be sufficient. Because and especially for people with complex care needs or brain injury they need the touch and care of loved ones. The Mail is running a campaign to stop the homes depriving loved ones of the human rights of our relatives and friends. Please add your voice to the debate.

I work in a care home in North Yorkshire. We have been having visits in the garden and they certainly last longer than half an hour. This last week we have had to stop visitors because the North Yorks County Council insisted as cases are rising rapidly. I agree its not great, but we are tied by the law, and there would be severe penalties for the home if we broke the rules, I've never heard of residents, not being allowed to wave. Our residents who's rooms are on the outer edge of the home can still get visits up to window, we would never stop them waving, or blowing kisses. Its a terrible time at the moment and us carers don't like the rules, but desperately want to keep these vulnerable people safe. We lost 20% of our residents in the big lockdown to this covid and it was devastating, we cried as it was really tough when you are so close to them every day. I hope qnd pray visits can resume soon. Until then we give them hugs, and make sure they are safe.
Please can you share the link, my son is in rehab and I have been banned from seeing him. Whichever door I push at has been closed. I have been in touch with Human Rights organisations; but they say they cannot help. i need to see my son and don't know where to turn next. He has had COVID he got it whilst in hospital, please may I ask where you got the info that the dept of health and social care do not share the blocking of relatives seeing patients?

I agree completely, my husband 's in a nursing home and l'm allowed to see him once a week for 20mins, he's inside l'm outside, l live on my own, so therfore l'm not mixing with people, His carers have family's so are at much more risk of passing on coronavirus than l am , l'm willing to be tested and wear ppe, but they still won't let me visit, his mental health is in a terrible state as he misses his family so much, it's worse than being in prison, l think it's disgraceful.

I feel that we have to do something about these draconian measures stopping us seeing our loved ones. What I don't know. I have not seen my 23 year old son in months

Sign the petition to repeal the Coronavirus Act 2020, follow the instructions to let your M.P. know that you have signed it. You can also write an email to your M.P. about your concerns or use the template email from the Big Brother Watch website. I will include links to the petition and template email if they are allowed.

Thanks Ruby Ruby, I will look at this early next week. I am just too tired tonight as I was refused again by rehab for me to see my son. This is despite me appealing on compassionate grounds as I have cancer @ stage iii with a significant risk of recurrencece and a letter from my GP stating I should be allowed to see him. I am very reluctant to approach the tabloid press. If anyone can think of anything else I might be able to do please could you let me know.
Breeches, you could just email your M.P. about your situation. You need to include your full name and address for them to respond, even in an email. I think it's something to do with confirming that you are actually in their constituency. Good luck

Breeches Go to the tabloids, name and shame. You have been left with no choice. Im a private person, like to deal with all revenues when needs must, but with your health they could at least do facetime, so you can see each other.
I wish you strength at this difficult time and this shambles of how this government has dealt with this crisis, just no compassion is just shameful and i send you a heart warming virtual hug.

It is such a bad situation. I cannot tell you how this is affecting me. I actually do not have a social worker. perhaps I should ask for one?

Thank you for all this is information! wow you have a great amount of knowledge. I am unsure if rehabilitation units (where my son is) is classed as a care home or a hospital. I think it might sit between the two. I will have to see if I can find that out. I will start by looking on their website. Thanks so much for your response it makes me feel less alone in this desperate struggle.
