Pilates after coiling surgery

Hi

Just wondering if anyone has done Pilates after cooking of an aneurysm. I had mine fixed in 2018 but when doing Pilates for the first time today I got a bit of blurred vision, felt strange and a little disorientated. I was careful about moving my head to quickly but the movements are slow anyway but this really freaked me out. I dont usually have any problem keeping fit, cycling, walking etc.

Thanks

Andrea

Hi Andrea,

I’m afraid I can’t really offer you any advice but I hope someone else can. I don’t like seeing posts that haven’t had a response. I love Pilates and find it a huge help with regard to strengthening my “core” muscles. I lost a lot of strength when I sustained my brain injury, especially around my trunk (lower back and deep stomach muscles). I would struggle to sit in a chair initially. Thankfully I’ve come on leaps and bounds, it’s been almost 6 years since my injury.

I would usually advise you to call your neurosurgeons secretary to ask about the sensations in your head, just for peace of mind.. but with the current climate it might be difficult to get the message to him/her. It might be worth speaking to your GP, you might get lucky and have one that understands aneurysms.

Anyway, good luck!

Thanks Emma for your reply. I tried again today and felt ok. I just didn’t do the lying down/turning bits!

My aneurysm was coiled but I have others up there.. well monitored as is BP so I always aware of what I’m doing.

People do find good results in Pilates but I enjoy other things especially dance and Zumba .. just trying new things in the lockdown.

Glad you get a lot of benefit from it👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks again Emma take care in these very strange times💗👏🏻

Hi Andrea,

You’re welcome 😊

That’s amazing that you are in tune with your body & know what the triggers are! I used to have a persistent spinal fluid leak and I used to love yoga, but I found that If I did any breath holding or any positions where my head was below my chest, it would cause me to spring a leak. I was annoyed that it meant missing certain postures/flows but I did accept it eventually. You sound as though you are listening to your body and I commend you for that!

That’s good that everything is well monitored, especially with multiple aneurysm’s.

I love Zumba too but haven’t done it since my brain injury! Maybe I should set it as a goal once lockdown is lifted!

You too! Take care 💗🤗

Hi Emma

I’m always on it when it comes to my health as I have Polycystic kidneys hence the brain situation.

Love dance music as it’s so uplifting and makes me feel good.. I guess anything that helps us is the right path.

Yes sounds like a plan for you or just a jolly good dance around has the same results🎶🎶🎶

Stay safe👍🏻👏🏻hope the weather is warming up nicely where you are😎

A☺️
