Financial help

Hi,

Just seeing what financial help is out there? I currently get the mobility part for pip and esa. These two benefits placed together still don’t result in much financial help. Especially as I have to pay private prices for physio. I fall out of the immediate help window with the NHS for this as I can do there basic tasks. I live with my parents who look after me as I’m not good enough to live alone. I can’t even leave the house alone as yet as I can’t walk independently. My parents receive no financial assistance towards me. Does anyone have any advice on this? We must be saving the government thousands having no help. My parents are pensioners and because of this their carers allowance got stopped. It’s a complete joke...

Get some advice your parents are looking after you surely they are entitled to careers allowance?

Hi please go and see Citizens Advice who will be able to tell you exactly what you can claim and they will also help you with all the forms. It sounds like your parents would be able to claim careers allowance, you said that you get the mobility part of PIP, so you might be entitled to more from PIP. If you had an accident at work then you can also claim Industrial injuries allowance. There are a number of things you could be able to claim, but go and see citizens advice they will give you all the help and advice you need. Sadly that is the way it goes with all governments when people receive life changing injuries, the families take most of the brunt of the care and save the government millions and yet they pay so little for careers allowance and make people jump through hoops to get benefits they deserve.

Have you tried one of the online checkers? Turn 2us etc? They might just come up with a benefit you don’t know about.

I feel for you and your parents; I’m in the same boat. Gave up my career to look after my son following his tbi and with 3 more kids and one wage supporting us all it’s causing strains all round. Hugs x
