I find fatigue levels go up depending on what activity I’ve been doing. Social and emotional activities give me a lot more fatigue that physical activity.

But when I get high fatigue it does take 2-3 days of rest to get over it.

I would be interested to learn more about how to manage fatigue and how long it goes on for after a brain injury.

Thanks Plenty. I think it goes on permanently but to varying degrees. I also think you are spot on about social and emotional activities being the most taxing. I struggle to do physical things when I am always so tired. Even though physical activity is the best thin to help manage fatigue. I am considering try to get a solely physical job to help me with day to day living but am worried about money. The again if I get my health and fatigue under control then maybe I might be in a better place mentally to work out how to increase my income. Who knows? Cheers.

I think my fatigue has definitely got worse as I have got older. Or maybe I am just more aware of it nowadays. I'm not sure I ever feel 'wide awake' anymore.

Ditto! I could have written your post exactly the way you've put it. I find it a daily struggle keeping motivated and fit so I walk dogs and socialise on my terms. But I prefer to isolate myself alone to protect my energies. At this time of year, as days will shorten and hibernation beckons, I have to resist lethargy and giving up. Some days are more difficult than others. I do think my fatigue has worsened with age, and depending on what season we're in, my energy does fluctuate. I'm thinking of joining a quiet gym (one that doesn't pump out music) to keep motivated during the long winter.

Me too. A gym and maybe walking football that is supposed to be relaxed and paced, if I can manage it. good luck.

I wish there was a way out of this for us all. I think fitness is the way for me but there are so many varying thigs that affect neuro fatigue. but alas no fix for it.

If your fatigue has got worse but your cognitive or physical activity hasn't changed e.g that you can't relate it to periods of being overwhelmed with things to achieve/demands, I would suggest that you go and see your GP. Other causes for worsening fatigue without a cause, could be anemia, low B12 levels etc. But yes if you are retirement age then that could be a factor. Or if you have not built yourself up to an activity level or expected yourself to resume work or managing cognitive demands, then that also could be why your fatigue has got worse.

Thanks StrawberryCream. But I'm pretty sure my fatigue is to do with my ongoing neurological issues. I am 45, so alas too young for retirement. Cheers Lulu

I noticed fatigue getting worse after 38,could be age! LOL :)

in reply toStrawberryCream

Thanks StrawberryCream . I am 38 so far from retirement. I am vit D deficient and growth hormone deficient. Had trouble getting the drugs for both this year. Getting some more bloods done soon for both so fingers crossed. Going to have a quick walk in the morning before work so hope helps. If I can do it regularly despite the worsening UK winter weather coming on it could really help over time. But as Icd8 has said I also think worsening fatigue is related to my neuro. Cheers.

Hi obiwan

Yes exercise is important to help manage the fatigue but I find mine is much worse when I have been dealing with emotional stuff for a long time (I am very slow at processing that type of stuff).

When the pressure is released the fatigue sets in and I can sleep for 20 hours a day for a much as a week. Yes really.

With the other stuff in your life, and it seems to be starting to move after years , I'm not surprised that you are fatigued.

It is like adjusting to a new normal your body is drawing a line under the past and preparing for the future.

Thanks randomphantoms. Yes it is moving but slowly again. local headway have said they will help but are taking an age. Headway lawyers are quoting me £700 to look into it all... So I need some help to more forward. I have cut myself off from all relatives even elderly grans which hurts but I cant go on living the lie anymore. mum can see the pain her mum is in worrying about me and she still wont come clean. but I am not using my nans pain to manipulate mum. I just couldn't take it anymore. I attended a group for people with long term conditions, mainly fibro-mialgae (sp). But I kept falling asleep in the group. the tutor had to almost catch me from falling from my chair twice. But I am working as I don't get any benefit and that is starting to help fatigue slowly. difficult adjusting though. I am sorry to hear you have to sleep so much at times. I hope things are ok for you at the moment.

I notice dealing with people is most tiring thing-particularly only cinema being in a busy shopping centre. So crowds then bloody overloud trailers(Pepsi Max u are bloody idiots!). Even cinema's tell u wrong time film starts cos obviously help peddling bloody car and mobile ads!

Bad enough cinema's are obsessed with sub bass,as if born in raves! After i just wanna go to bed!

If i don't go,i'm a bore-if friends wouldn't go,but fiance likes going to cinema!
