Since my crainioplasty was done on the 12th April I still haven't washed my hair properly as I'm scared that if i do the large scabs will come off and cause me to either bleed again or get an infection but surely I should of been ok to do it by now? People are saying to use water but that will still losen off the scabs?? What do i do???
Worried as usual: Since my crainioplasty was done on... - Headway
Worried as usual
Ask someone to do it for you - very gently and using the least amount of water and shampoo possible avoiding the scabs as much as possible.
My hubby is going to do it for me and yes your right i will be avoiding the scabs. It just don't feel clean unless it's all washed. Feel so dirty but Ty for your advice.
Use baby shampoo??
After the op for breast cancer the consultant told me to use only Johnson's baby shampoo in case it trickled down onto the op area in the shower, as it's SO much gentler than any other shampoo.
And again after a cataract procedure the ophthalmologist warned against using adult shampoo for a while but said that baby shampoo isn't in the least harmful or painful for the eyes.
I'm sure you'll be fine with the mild shampoo and your husband watching out for scabs ; you'll hopefully find it a big relief afterwards. xx
Hello Gina1972
My family friend has just told that when she needed 8 stitches and glue to a nasty scalp head wound in January 2013 after she fell down the stairs at home she got her fiance to wash her hair for her, but avoided the area where the stitches and glue were.
Hope I have been of some help.
Ben
Hi, I agree with the others. After my cranioplasty I was worried about washing my hair too but got my sister to do it using a bowl of water and jug and baby shampoo and she avoided the actual scar area as much as she could. It worked ok for me, hope it does for you!
