Rehab....

So it has been a very long wait but my husband has finally been assessed by the doctor from the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre and has confirmed that he is appropriate and has been accepted - I am so so so relieved and happy that we can now move on.

My question is does anyone have any idea on the length of time it will take. I assume the centre will now have to apply for the funding from the NHS and put together a programme for him?? Any advice is much appreciated x

Thats amazing news at last😁

Sorry but i went straight into rehab from hospital, they kept me there til a bed became free so dont know how long it might take.

I was told the average stay in rehab is 15 weeks at a he one i was at and as they only had 18 beds you can see why it can take a long time for one to become free, hopefully your wait wont be too long although they do proritise on individuals needs.

Again, fantastic news

Thank you so much, I am just so happy after a long wait for the assessment to take place and then to confirm that he is 'appropriate' is such a weight off my shoulders!! I am hoping it wont take too long to get him moved! Hope your recovery is going well xxx

Hi again Treetate. My rehab took place in the hospital where I was treated for the SAH so I'm sorry I can't help with a timeframe. But it might not be comparable anyway as waiting lists vary depending on the amount of beds/the duration of treatments & patient progress/cancellations etc.

But perhaps it isn't a coincidence that this comes so soon after the 'manhandling' issue and, if damage limitation is involved, then hopefully your man's transfer will be prioritised........?? I hope so.

It's great for you to know the rehab is in the pipeline at last ; really pleased for you both ! Cat xx

Hey Cat, yes I completely agree!! I am also now getting calls from a support worker who has never been in touch before! The doctor from the rehab centre didn’t show up twice and I spent hours waiting for her at the hospital (no real reason) so it has been a constant battle! Just glad that things are moving and hopefully quickly now.

Thank you xxxx

Knowing that he has been accepted must be a huge relief.

We were told to expect an 8 week wait for our daughter as it is only a 29 bed unit, but in the end it was just over 5 weeks.

There wasn't much forward planning - everything happened once she arrived and that made sense to us because they wanted to assess everything themselves rather than relying on notes from her previous ward.

Good luck.
