Headache

Apparently 5 almonds will banish a headache. My mothers latest advice. I've woken up with a banging head and taken 5 almonds, will type how I feel in an hour at 10. I don't think it will work as I have a 3 year dragging me about and chatting on and on bless him!

Never heard that one before?! I am always munching on handfuls of almonds and they've never cured a headache for me. Maybe it's a psychological thing ........ if you think and believe there going to work then they do 'placebo effect'!? I know very well the child effect though.

Well my headache has gone! And I've had a coffee and tea since. Probably is placebo but I'd rather that than the Ibuprofen I got given for back ache (another matter entirely)... Bring on the natural remedies/placebos ha :)

I wish it were that simple, I love almonds! I do find often a headache is cured with a glass of water, sometimes we can become dehydrated when we are busy and forget to have a drink.

Speaking of placebos - you may find this book interesting "You Are the Placebo: Making Your Mind Matter" by Dr. Joe Dispenza

I ate about 20 almonds today and at 5 o'clock I couldn't continue so I took an Ibuprofen. I tried!

You've made me chuckle! I guess if there was something like almonds curing headaches the whole world would know about them being as good as ibuprofen, paracetamol etc etc!!

....and I was munching on cashews, I knew I was doing something wrong when I still need dihydrocodiene

My daughter's a nutritionist and she always says water is good for headaches. You weren't having caffeine withdrawal symptoms, were you? She's trying to get me to give up tea and coffee but the headaches while I'm making the attempt always stop me. Apparently even decaf has some in it. I'll ask her about almonds.

Hi Dottlejay,

I have heard that water is good for headaches but these days I would avoid drinking tap water because of the fluoride content. And I'm not talking about the naturally occurring fluoride either. Sodium fluoride which can be responsible for a lot of health conditions. Makes you wonder why it is even added to tap water... That is another story.

I limit my caffeine intake after about 3pm. Couldn't function without the stuff! I only allow myself one strong coffee in the morning but probably have 3-4 cups of tea during the first 6 hours after waking. Alcohol has been a nightmare, I literally can't have it in the house now :)

Hi Aqua,

You sound like you like your coffee then, who doesn't.

I used to drink a lot of coffee but don't drink so much now until I found out about mushroom mix coffee with Lion's mane and Chaga mushrooms.

I was going through some of RecoveringH 's old posts and I noticed one about the mushroom Lion's mane and how it benefits the nerves and brain.

So I started doing more research on Lion's mane and I found a great website called Bodykind and they sell the mushroom mix coffee and Lion's mane elixir which is really nice too.

The coffee tastes just like normal coffee but the only thing is, this is good for you. I think it tastes a lot better than the coffee we get, I think we get Nescafé which is Nestlé's coffee and Nestlé are a horrible company.

That sounds similar to when my Aunty will say that you get one of your five fruits a day from a cherry bakewell haha.

Conclusion is the almond remedy must work for some but it didn't for me :)

Interesting. I don't know if that works, it could help.

I read and I mentioned to you the a handful of cashew nuts can treat depression. Again, I don't know if that works but that is what I read.

I used to get headaches every now and then when I was younger. Now that I eat better, more naturally, I don't get headaches so much. But if I do wake up with, what I call a stuffy head, or if my brain hasn't had enough sleep then I shall take a few deep breaths of Frankincense essential oil. That usually does the trick :).
